“Was I strong enough to be soft?”: Angelina Jolie Details Suggestions from Her Therapist That Left Her Confused
Angelina Jolie is known to be one of the most celebrated actresses in Hollywood and has been a prominent figure in the entertainment industry for decades. Despite her challenges, including her high-profile divorce from her ex-husband Brad Pitt, she still managed to surmount the adversities and continue to pursue her career.
The actress, who is a popular fashionista and recently discussed how fashion has influenced her self-expression and evoked the feeling of empowerment, was ultimately left perplexed after a therapy session.
Angelina Jolie reflects on embracing her vulnerable side in fashion
Angelina Jolie has reflected on her transformative period in her life and spoken about how the introspection has prompted her to step away from taking on major projects for the past 10 years.
Jolie, who is a popular fashionista, has a unique approach to her fashion choices, utilizing clothing as a medium to express complexities and intricate emotions. In an interview with Vogue magazine, the 48-year-old Oscar-winning actress shared how her fashion choices have influenced her personal growth and self-expression.
“Sometimes the way you dress says, ‘Don’t mess with me—I’ve got my armor on.’ But I want a woman to feel safe enough that she can be soft.”
She explained that her clothing choices have served as a form of armor, projecting her strength and resilience. However, during a challenging phase in her life, her therapist suggested experimenting with floral garments, seemingly an unconventional idea for her. Jolie, who always assumed wearing pants and boots would give her a “tough look”, was confused about exploring her vulnerable and softer side in clothing.
Despite initially finding the suggestion ridiculous, she admitted the complexity of her self-discovery and the depth of her emotions at her evolving age of 48, questioning whether she is strong enough to embrace the softer side of herself.
“But was I strong enough to be soft? At the time, no. I felt vulnerable. Now I wonder if I don’t know what my style is because I’m still understanding who I am at 48. I guess I’m in transition as a person.”
This introspection reflects her style of exploring her softer side and shows the willingness of the actress to delve deeper into her own emotions and embrace vulnerability as a means of self-discovery.
Angelina Jolie trying to scale back from Hollywood
Jolie, who has overcome numerous difficulties, is often seen as the epitome of strength and resilience. Despite her public image and perceived success, Jolie in the interview expressed that she experiences moments of emotional lows.
“I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade, in a way. Which I don’t want to get into.”
Other than doing some high-profile films like Eternals and Those Who Wish Me Dead, Jolie acknowledged that she deliberately reduced her presence in Hollywood projects around 2017, indicating that she was in her period of healing.
In addition to that, she shares the ongoing project with her daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt. Vivienne Pitt, a musical aspirant, is currently working as her mother’s assistant in producing a musical adaptation of The Outsiders for the stage.
