The topic of discussion regarding films and TV shows produced in the 1990s and early 2000s had toxic cultures has been there for a long time. One such set was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The news of Buffy’s set experiencing power abuse is not new. Many celebrities are speaking out against the creator Joss Whedon’s behavior on the set in particular. Charisma Carpenter was one of the people who spoke against Whedon’s power abuse.

Sarah Michelle Gellar in the Wrap’s power of women summit spoke about how she thought all movie sets were of male toxic dominance. The 45-year-old actor who was part of Buffy The Vampire Slayer realized that not all sets have toxic male environments. During the roundtable, the actress confessed to being on a set that had incredible male dominance.

The experience of being on the set recognized for being an incredibly toxic male set led her to form this opinion. The star thought all sets were toxic and women pitted against each other. Gellar said, “If women became friends, then we became too powerful, so [they] had to keep that down.”

The perspective of the Cruel Intentions star has changed after working with more women from the industry. Also, men who want women to succeed have played a part in altering the actress’s views. The Hollywood star confessed,  “I realized how easy an experience it can be. Unfortunately, we’re still in that place where all of those departments a lot of times need to be women for us to have a voice.”

Although Gellar never revealed on which set she experienced male toxicity, she was part of Buffy the Vampire Slayer which came into headlines for its apparent toxic work environment.

Sarah Gellar was part of Buffy the Vampire Slayer from 1997 to 2003. She played the role of Buffy. The TV show in 2021 made its way into the limelight for having a toxic work environment on set. Charisma Carpenter, who co-starred with Gellar in the show, has accused Joss Whedon, the creator of abusing power on set.

The 45-year-old actress appreciated Carpenter’s efforts of speaking out. She through her Instagram said, “While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon.”

The star didn’t release any official statement regarding the creator since she was more focused on her family.
