Natalie Portman and Britney Spears both established their entertainment careers at a young age; however, the course of their careers took different paths over the years. The 41-year-old achieved major roles in notable films such as the Star Wars prequels and Jackie. As compared to Spears, who rose to fame as a pop music sensation, creating chart-topping albums.
Despite her popularity, the singer has experienced several personal setbacks, including a prominent conservatorship dispute. Although, it’s worth noting that Portman has previously told how she and Spears became friends.
The Connection Between Natalie Portman And Britney Spears
Portman and the pop star are both highly successful women in their respective fields. Spears, who is often referred to as the Princess of Pop, has an impressive five singles that have topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Meanwhile, Portman received critical acclaim for her acting roles in movies such as Black Swan and Thor, earning her an Academy Award in 2011.
Although these women have since achieved great success, it may come as a surprise to many that they were friends long before they became household names.
Their paths first crossed back in 1992 when they both auditioned for the lead role in an off-Broadway musical called Ruthless. The Star Wars performer stated,
“We, very coincidentally, were understudies for the same show when we were kids. So we both were, like, child actresses. And she understudied and then she got the part in The Mickey Mouse Club and she left and I took over for her. And so then when we were, like, 18 and both of us had had different careers.”
In a past interview with Lilly Singh on A Little Late With Lilly Singh, the actress revealed that they became friends. She shared,
“She obviously became a pop icon and I was acting — and then we met up again and we were like, We both had the same first job. That’s wild.”
Further, Portman is featured in ELLE’s Women in Hollywood issue, where she talks about how the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements helped her make new friends in the industry.
However, She also shared that they rekindled their friendship in the 2000s, long after they had both become famous in their respective fields.

The duo had met well before they became famous, and that could have been the end of their time together. However, according to Portman, she and Spears rekindled their friendship in the 2000s.
They were so close that they even co-hosted a New Year’s Eve party together in 2002, which Portman addressed in her interview with Singh.
It appeared that this wasn’t the only time the famous friends hung out in the early 2000s. Earlier, Britney Spears shared a curious throwback photo celebrating her sister Jamie Lynn Spears’ birthday which shows she was surrounded by Portman and Justin Timberlake.
Interestingly, that wasn’t even the only time Spears shared photos of the artist on social media in 2021. Taking to Twitter, the songwriter had included the actor in a roundup, she described, “These cool ladies always add a spark to my day,”
Billboard had noted that the hitmaker told fans she’d love to see the Closer performer play her in a biopic as well. We were here for it. It was heartening to see two successful women coming together and supporting each other through ups and down.
