The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) and Game of Thrones (GOT) easily make for two of the most popular fantasy franchises in the world. Over time, these franchises have been expanded with prequels like The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon. What is even more exciting is that some actors have appeared in both of these franchises at some point.
It is not every day that fantasy franchises such as these are built and since they are adapted from books, the fanbase is even bigger. Needless to say, fans love watching all that they have to offer. Some eagle-eyed viewers also often notice some details that others might miss. Recently, we realized that The Rings of Power star Robert Aramayo is one of those actors who have starred in both franchises.
Robert Aramayo is on a List of Actors Who Have Starred in Both The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones
While The Lord of the Rings is adapted from J. R. R. Tolkien’s eponymous novel series, Game of Thrones has been adapted from George R. R. Martin’s novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The former was first released in the early 2000s as a film trilogy, and the latter was released as an HBO show between 2010 and 2019. Both have done well and are still among the most beloved fantasy media.
A multi-seasoned LOTR prequel series, The Rings of Power, and a similar prequel/spin-off GOT series, House of the Dragon, premiered in 2022. Ironically, three actors – namely, Sean Bean, Robert Aramayo, and Joseph Mawle – have appeared in both franchises.
Most people might already know about Bean. He starred as Boromir in the LOTR films and Eddard (Ned) Stark in GOT. Interestingly, Aramayo played a younger version of Ned. He gained even more popularity for his portrayal of Elrond in The Rings of Power.
Additionally, Mawle played the role of Benjen Stark, a First Ranger of the Night’s Watch and the youngest brother of Ned Stark. In The Rings of Power Season 1, he appeared as Orc leader Adar. However, he was replaced by Sam Hazeldine in the second season. Hopefully, there will be more such crossovers in the future as it is always fun to watch our favorite characters being brought to life by actors we are familiar with.
Robert Aramayo is a Huge Fan of The Lord of the Rings
There are not many actors who get to star in the stuff that they would love to be a part of. After all, not everyone is Tom Holland who manifested portraying Spider-Man and actually landed the role a couple of years later. Luckily for him, Robert Aramayo can relate to some extent.
During an interview with GQ back in 2022, he was asked just how big of a fan he is of the world Tolkien built. The Behind Her Eyes actor replied:
It was a big part of my life at every stage, really. In our first year of grammar school, my best friend and I didn’t do loads of work because whenever we could, we’d run back to our dorm room, and play one of the Playstation games.
When people get to be a part of something they have spent their entire lives adoring, the outcome is always phenomenal. So far, Aramayo has been giving an excellent performance in the series, and we are sure he will continue doing so.
