The best example of these malevolent practices are three Unforgivable Curses: Avada Kedavra, Crucio and Imperio, which kill, torture and control, respectively.

Lord Voldemort often used Avada Kedavra as it allowed him to harness his dark magic and assert his power.

The Cruciatus Curse proved to be far more dangerous as it was so awful that it made victims beg for death.

The Cruciatus Curse was designed to inflict unspeakable pain on the user and it was also used to extract information from the victims.

While Avada Kedavra was final, Crucio could bring victims so much pain they'd feel they were on the verge of death.

Compared to Imperio, which perverted the minds of an individual and control them, Crucio could get to the point much faster and with little effort from the person.

Bellatrix also used Crucio on Hermione also Harry when Voldemort was resurrected and although they survived with their sanity, the effects never really left them.
