“We’re SICK of this family”: Jason Momoa’s Minecraft Movie Stokes Nepotism Controversy, Reportedly Ropes in Timothée Chalamet’s Sister Pauline as Lead
Jason Momoa made his acting debut at the age of 19 in the 1999 American action TV series Baywatch Hawaii, in which he starred as Jason Ioane. He went on to be a part of the main cast of the 2005 Fox drama North Shore. He rose to prominence with appearances in other dramas such as Syfy’s sci-fi series Stargate Atlantis, and the first two seasons of the popular fantasy drama Game of Thrones.
Portraying Arthur Curry aka Aquaman in the 2018 DCEU movie Aquaman helped Jason Momoa’s career reach new heights. More than a year ago, it was announced that he was going to star in the film adaptation of the sandbox game Minecraft. Recently, it was revealed that Pauline Chalamet, sister of Timothée Chalamet, might appear as the lead actress in the movie, and fans do not seem too happy about it.
Pauline Chalamet’s Alleged Casting in Jason Momoa’s Minecraft Movie is Unwelcome by Fans
It is not uncommon for members of the same family to be in the same profession; for instance, the Kardashian-Jenner sisters, two of the Hemsworth brothers, and Jaden Smith and his sister Willow Smith. Timothee Chalamet and his sister Pauline Chalamet seem to be coming with the same motive in mind as the former is already globally recognized, and the latter is no novice either.
Having started her career with small television roles, Pauline Chalamet made her film debut in 2020 with Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island. She then went on to star as Kimberly in Mindy Kaling’s HBO Max series The Sex Lives of College Girls.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman (via The Hollywood Handle), Chalamet is allegedly going to star alongside Jason Momoa in the Minecraft live adaptation. Fans, however, do not seem too impressed with this news as one of them commented how they cannot tolerate more of the Chalamet family.

While a lot of fans were unaware of the existence of the Chalamet sibling, others were doubtful about her ability and her attributing this huge role to her brother’s stardom. Hopefully, she is going to prove her ability in the Jason Momoa starrer movie.
Jason Momoa Starrer Minecraft is Not Going to Be Released Until 2025
Hollywood producers offered Mojang Studios, the producer of the Minecraft game, the proposal to make related TV shows in 2012. At the time, Mojang Studios stated that they would entertain such an idea only if they found the right thing for it.
After a lot of back and forth, in April 2022, it was finally announced that a live adaptation of Minecraft would be made with Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess set to direct and Jason Momoa as a part of the star cast (via The Hollywood Reporter). Filming was supposed to begin in August, but the Hollywood strikes pulled the brakes on it.
As of now, the filming of the movie is going to begin in early 2024, and although it was reported that the movie would be released in April 2025, a delay in the filming will also push back the release date.
