- Chris Evans talks about his special bond with his mother Lisa Capuano.
- It was Lisa Capuano who convinced Evans to say yes to Captain America.
- The actor says it was really special to return as the Human Torch.
Actor Chris Evans, famously known for portraying Steve Rogers, a.k.a., Captain America in Marvel Cinematic Universe, is regarded as one of the finest actors in the industry. He started his career in 2000 by appearing on a television series titled Opposite Sex, followed by playing Johnny Storm, a.k.a., the Human Torch, in the Fantastic Four movies.
But his stint as Captain America helped him gain worldwide recognition and establish himself as one of the highest-paid actors in the world. Evans has also been a part of projects including Knives Out, The Gray Man Before We Go, and more, which has helped him break out a little from his superhero image. In an interview, the actor, who is very close to his mother, Lisa Capuano, revealed one thing that he told her that could leave the audience a little flustered.

During the promotions of The Gray Man, starring Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, and more, Evans appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers, where he spoke about his mother. During the interview, the host asked Evans if it was true that he told his mother when he lost his virginity. Evans said,
Yes, I did. My whole family, we’re just very open with a lot of things. If I had parties in high school, half of the party was upstairs talking to her about inappropriate things. She’s a really, really cool woman. So cool that I raced home and said, ‘I did it! I don’t know what I was doing, but I think I did it.’
Evans’ mother is the reason why the audience got to see him as Captain America. In an interview with Esquire, Chris Evans’ mother revealed that the actor was going to turn down the role of Steve Rogers. She explained that his biggest fear was losing his anonymity, adding that Evans told her mother that he has a career now where he can work, and walk his dog, and no one would bother him.
Lisa Capuano mentioned that losing that terrified Evans, and he’d often call her up to ask for advice, to which she only said to him;
Look, you want to do acting work for the rest of your life? If you do this part, you will have the opportunity. You’ll never have to worry about paying the rent. If you take the part, you just have to decide; it’s not going to affect my life negatively—it will enable it.
Chris Evans finally understood what his mother wanted him to understand and said yes to playing one of the most iconic characters. The part established him as one of the biggest stars in the industry.
Will Chris Evans return as Captain America?
During a recent interview with US Weekly, Chris Evans was once again asked if he would return as Captain America in the MCU, especially after his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine as the Human Torch. The actor said,
I don’t know. I think you know those were wonderful times, and it’s probably the dearest role to my heart, but you know it might be better to just let those times be those times.
Anthony Mackie took over the role of Captain America after Evans bid goodbye to his character in Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Upon asking about his return as the Human Torch for Deadpool & Wolverine, he said it was so great, adding that he loved that role. Evans noted that he has a lot of love for that character in his heart, and so getting a call from Ryan Reynolds was special. The actor stated that he’d do anything for Ryan Reynolds, but getting to yell flame on again was just special.
In another interview with EW, Evans admitted that Reynolds might be the only guy he would have played Johnny Storm for because the actor’s got a Midas touch. Evans praised Reynolds for his work and called him ‘invincible,’ adding that the Canadian actor’s humor makes just about everything work in his favor.
Deadpool & Wolverine is playing in cinemas.
