YouTube Anthony Po organizes a Timothée Chalamet look-alike competition

Popularly known as Anthpo, Anthony Po is a popular YouTuber who started posting videos online as a high school student in 2019 and continued throughout college. Po’s main content is focused on lighthearted pranks, public stunts, and comedy skits. The YouTuber after graduating announced in 2023 that he’d retire from his channel and move on with his life.

But Po returned a year later, announcing that he was back and has over 1.8 million subscribers. According to Fox News, Anthony Po was the organizer of the recent  Timothée Chalamet Look-Alike event in New York City. Paige Nguyen, producer for YouTuber Anthony Po, shared with the publication,

It started as a silly joke, and now it’s turned pandemonium.

The contest had been advertised on flyers around New York City and garnered a lot of attention from the public. It promised $50 as the prize money for the winner. Several doppelgängers showed up dressed up as Timothée Chalamet at Washington Square Park, which is a popular spot for university students to smoke cigarettes, read books, and hang out.

The lookalikes were interviewed on stage about their plans with Kylie Jenner, their French proficiency, and more. Miles Mitchell, who was dressed up as Willy Wonka, eventually won the $50 prize. Surprisingly, Chalamet decided to surprise fans and showed up at his lookalike event. The crowd was thrilled to have him there, while some mistook him for his lookalike.

The NYPD cops and city Parks Department enforcement tried to break the crowd by stating that it was an unlawful gathering without a permit. Po ended up receiving a $500 fine but shared with The Independent,

I’m hoping it’s just fine. We didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just a lot of people. And we hung up 50 posters; we had nothing to do with the marketing. This is the way of culture. And this is the price of the culture. We were fully expecting it not to happen, so the fact that it happened makes it more than a success.

Chalamet was filmed walking through the crowd and hugging some of the lookalikes while posing for pictures.

Timothée Chalamet talks about Bob Dylan being the most inspiring artist

The actor is set to play Bob Dylan in an upcoming movie, A Complete Unknown, and according to The Ballad of a True Original featurette, the actor said,

Bob wouldn’t let himself be boxed in, which for me as a young artist is the most inspiring. Many of the artists through American pop culture who had the balls to turn their back on what was expected of them started with Bob.

Timothée Chalamet added that his words are relevant before pointing out that Times They are A-Changing and Blowing in the Wind is still relevant. The young actor shared in the featurette that it was important for him to sing and play on set because it was in the spirit of the movie to do it live.

Music supervisor Steven Gizicke also noted that the actor had performed live guitar, vocals, and harmonica solos for the performers in the movie. Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, and Monica Barbaro also star in the movie along with Charlotte. It is scheduled for release on December 25, 2024.
