Earlier this month, Liam Payne’s sudden passing sent shockwaves through the world. Alongside his solo career, the talented musician was best known for his contributions to the British boyband One Direction, which went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016.
Payne was gearing up to share his second solo album with the world before his passing. The release of that album is now uncertain, but his collaborator Sam Pounds has got the fans covered as he has announced that he will be releasing a song that they were working on together. However, not many people know who Pounds is even though he seemed to have been friends with the Bedroom Floor singer.
Who Is Liam Payne’s Collaborator, Sam Pounds?
Liam Payne auditioned for The X-Factor as a 14-year-old but did not make it through. He refused to give up and returned when he was 16. This time, he was put in a band with 4 other contestants. The band later named itself One Direction and went on to become a global phenomenon with 5 studio albums and 4 world tours.
When the band went on hiatus, Payne started working on solo music and often collaborated with popular or up-and-coming musicians and music producers. One of them is Sam Pounds who is relatively not as popular in the industry yet.
According to IMDb, Pounds is a Los Angeles-based rock singer and music producer who hails from Durham, North Carolina. Like many other artists, he developed an interest in music since he was a kid. He grew up with church music, R&B, and rock ‘n’ roll, and always had his grandmother always encouraging him to sing.
In 2013, graduated in audio technology from Barton College in North Carolina and produced various musical acts in that area. Six years later, he moved to Los Angeles in hopes of furthering his career. He landed a weekly performing gig at Black Rabbit Rose where he performed over 200 shows, and also performed some shows at Drake’s club Delilah, where he attracted on-lookers like Madonna, Will Smith, and Wiz Khalifa.
Meeting Jamie Foxx was what led to Pounds’ breakthrough in the industry. They worked together on the soundtrack for the upcoming Netflix film Back in Action. Additionally, Foxx set up a meeting for Pounds with the UK executives at Virgin Music. In June 2023, Pounds released his album Don’t Forget Where You Came From through Sumerian Records. He is planning to embark on a tour this year.
Sam Pounds Has Taken the Responsibility of Releasing Liam Payne’s Song Posthumously
Payne passed away after a fatal fall from the balcony of the room at his Buenos Aires-based hotel, Casa Sur Palermo in Argentina. The news spread around like wildfire and soon, people all around the world were mourning his death. His family, friends, and girlfriend Kate Cassidy took some time to process the loss and address his demise.
Sam Pounds was also one of the friends who expressed his sadness over the news. He posted on X announcing that he will be releasing the song Do No Wrong on which he collaborated with Payne. Three different versions of the song will be released on November 1.
Pounds also shared some videos of himself working with the late musician on Instagram. However, his decision to release the song has been met with mixed reactions as some fans are glad that they will be able to hear the music Payne was so excited to share with everyone, while others think it is soon to release it.
