“Why are you showing everyone your ugly spots?”: Dune Star Florence Pugh on How Hollywood Forced Her To Look More Flawless Than Human
The Hollywood industry has always been judgemental. Every actor who gets into the entertainment industry has been through a major change. There was a myth that actors playing the character had to look flawless. But with the changing times, that too has changed. Many stars have opted for a more human look ditching the flawless one.
Florence Pugh, who has been criticized several times for her fashion and body, spoke about the changes in beauty stereotypes in the industry. She is the one actress who has always been open about her looks. Even with the controversy over her sheer Valentino gown, she has addressed the issue confidently and without any hesitation.
Florence Pugh talks about beauty standards in the Hollywood industry
The 27-year actor has always been open about her looks and has addressed people calling her out directly. She recently appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood Issue. During the interview, Florence Pugh discussed the beauty standards of the entertainment industry.
There has been a change in beauty stereotypes over the years. Celebrities are opting for a more human look rather than a flawless one. When asked about this change, the Don’t Worry Darling star said she is in love with this shift.
The actress further shared the things her grandfather used to say at the start of her career. She revealed how he used to question her about her looks.
The Academy Award nominee said, “When I started out, my granddad would always tell me off and be like, ‘Why are you showing everyone your ugly spots?”
She went on to say how her grandpa was confused about her showing her cellulite. Her answer was, “Well, I’d much rather do it than they do it, and then I feel ashamed.”
Pugh further explained,
“When I put on makeup and step in a wonderful dress, I give credit to the people that made me look like that. And I also want my fans to know that (a) I don’t look like that all the time and (b) I also have stress acne, and I also have hairy eyebrows, and I also have greasy hair.”
The Midsommar actress thought talking about her looks and being open was a better way. She said this way no one has to call her out, and she can be herself in front of her fans.
Florence Pugh is in terms with the intricacies of her body
This won’t be the first time Pugh has spoken about beauty standards. She was in news due to her controversial hot pink sheer Valentino gown that she wore for the luxury brand’s Haute Couture show in July 2022. The actress was criticized for the dress that showed her ni**les. She addressed the issue by coming to terms with the intricacies of her body that make her who she is.
The Black Widow actress shut people down by saying,
“So many of you wanted to aggressively let me know how disappointed you were by my ‘tiny tits’, or how I should be embarrassed by being so ‘flat chested’. I’ve lived in my body for a long time. I’m fully aware of my br*ast size and am not scared of it.”
The 27-year-old has been quite a humble soul. She is one of the most real and relatable actresses in the industry in today’s time.
