Why Tom Cruise Ditched 21 Pilots To Get Lady Gaga For Top Gun: Maverick Song, Revealed
Bruckheimer Productions have come back with the Top Gun decades after its huge commercial hit at the box office and in the hearts of the people. The sequel Top Gun: Maverick was released on the big screen on May 27, 2022 with a massive response. Tom Cruise poses as one of the biggest career openers and makes his fans proud, once again. The film has Van Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly and Miles Teller as few of the other major characters in the part.
In the Making of the Sequel
After the release in 1986, a possible follow up to the Tony Scott direction was announced in the year 2010 by Paramount Pictures. It was sure that it was to be worked with actors Cruise and Kilmer and producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Tony Scott. However in 2012, when Craige and Marks finished a draft for the screenplay, Scott died by suicide. This made the production take a halt in grievance.
In 2017, the production had a new screenplay written and drafted by Joseph Kosinski. The film stayed under principal production from May 2018 to April 2019. In 2020 it was thus stopped due to the spread of the deadly Covid 19 virus and unsettling schedules.
The soundtrack of the Top Gun: Maverick
The music for the film is contributed by Harnold Faultermeyer, Lady Gaga and Hans Zimmer. Interscope Records released the soundtrack on May 27, 2022. ‘Hold My Hand’ by Lady Gaga and ‘I Aint Worried’ by OneRepublic were songs promoted before the main soundtrack.
21 Pilots almost the part of Top Gun: Maverick
The popular American Duo, 21 Pilots were a part of the soundtrack in the phase of production. Although, as per reports, it was Cruise who fired the Duo and hired Lady Gaga. “You know, funny thing, I was working with the music placement person for me Top Gun for writing a new song for them. And then I believe Tom Cruise came in and just fired everyone.” Sources say that Cruise might have wanted a more swift gesture to the track rather than just the typical ones to the theme.
The director was skeptical about Gaga’s performance. But the piece turns out to be one of the gems of the film. The song is a true masterpiece and submerges in the mood of the film.
“… and then Gaga came in with this song… it became our score. It became the heartbeat of the film, what she did. And I called her and said, ‘I don’t think you understand, emotionally…’ I was so concerned until I heard that piece. And I knew that that piece, what it does, how it married (to) our story emotionally. So that was a moment. That was a real moment for all of us“, said Cruise.
Top Gun: Maverick is now playing in theaters.
