Why Will Johnny Somali Go to Prison: American Streamer May Face 7 Years More For His AI South Korean Girlfriend
- Controversial streamer Johnny Somali might have to spend almost 2 decades in South Korean prison.
- He is prohibited from leaving the country while his drug use and assault charges are being investigated.
- Things might get worse for him now that he has posted a video with a deepfake South Korean girlfriend using AI.
Infamous American streamer Johnny Somali, aka Ramsey Khalid Ismael, is under fire again for offending the natives of an Asian country. He began streaming last year on Twitch and was banned from the platform for the inappropriate behavior he exhibits during his streams.
Following the Twitch ban, he began streaming on YouTube and Kick. Earlier this year, he was also banned from the latter streaming platform. So, he resorted to the platform Rumble. However, bans from streaming platforms have not changed his behavior at all as he continues to insult the cultures of the countries he visits. That might come to an end soon if he were to be imprisoned in South Korea for his offensive actions there.
Johnny Somali’s Prison Time in South Korea Might Be Upto 7 Years If Proven Guilty
The internet is a strange place to be. While most people use social media platforms to show off their talents, some like Johnny Somali use unfair means to gain attention and clout. He is certainly not the first internet personality to have offended the culture of an Asian country; for instance, Logan Paul did something offensive in Japan in 2017. However, unlike Paul, Somali does not seem to learn from his mistakes.
Somali traveled to South Korea in September this year. His antics are at an all-time high now and he might face the consequences very soon. Recently, an X account claimed that the streamer used AI to make a deepfake video in which a Korean woman can be seen as his girlfriend.
Thanks to this video, 7 more years might get added to the 10 years of imprisonment he was already going to face. According to Yahoo, he’s facing charges of assault and narcotics use and he’s banned from leaving while under investigation. The country has very strict rules when it comes to drug use.
According to Lee & Lee, possession or use of illegal drugs can result in a sentence of up to 10 years in jail or a fine of up to 100 million won in South Korea. Additionally, if Somali’s assault charges are proven (via Dexerto), he might face another 2 years in prison or a fine of 5 million won (via Lee & Lee).
Johnny Somali Has Been Offensive in Different Countries Before
If there is one person who does not seem to have a sense of boundaries, it is certainly Somali who clearly does not know where to draw the line when it comes to his wild and attention-seeking antics. The proof of this is his offensive behavior during his visits to Japan and Israel.
During his visit to Japan, not only did he use racist slurs to insult locals, but also made insensitive comments about the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings (via The Tokyo Weekender). He even admitted to having lied in the Japanese court about not earning any money from his videos (via Dexerto). He was just as problematic, if not more, during his visit to Israel earlier this year.
