The first movie follows green-skinned Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) arriving at Shiz University, and forming an unlikely bond with her classmate, Glinda (Ariana Grande) before the two of them go on to become the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North respectively.
The movie also features a great supporting cast starring Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero Tigelaar, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Ethan Slater as Boq Woodsman, Peter Dinklage as the voice of Doctor Dillamond, a Goat and a History professor, and many others.
That said, according to Showbiz Galore, all the actors have earned quite a fortune from their work in this movie. To begin with, the 7 Rings singer has reportedly got a paycheck of $15 million, making her the highest-paid castmate. Erivo, on the other hand, has allegedly been paid $1 million for her role.
Additionally, while Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum have reportedly earned $2 million each, Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey was paid a salary of $450,000. Ethan Slater has allegedly earned $350,000. Marissa Bode who plays Elphaba’s sister, Nessarose Thropp, and Bowen Yang, who portrays one of Glinda’s friends, have been reportedly paid $250,000 each. However, it has to be noted that none of these salaries have been officially confirmed.

So far, everyone has only got nice things to say about the film. Considering the amount of hard work the actors have put into it including the marketing, it would truly be disappointing if the movie did not turn out to be as good as expected. Luckily, that does not seem to be the case. The release of this first movie was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, but the second part is set for release in November 2025.
