Earlier this year it was reported that the sequel will be directed by Jonathan Krisel, and Chris Galletta will be doing the script writing. His previous attempts as an antagonist were not truly successful and the nearest one was his cameo as Lucifer in the 2014 romantic fantasy Winter’s Tale. Smith played a supervillain in the 2016 movie, Suicide Squad, but the role was not actually that of an antagonist. His character in Pikachu Detective 2 will be the first bad guy role for Will Smith. Considering last year’s Oscar slap drama, it is interesting to see Smith choose the negative role.
