Will Smith’s ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ Shares an Unbelievable Connection with One $585 Million MCU Film – Here’s How
The much-anticipated installment of Bad Boys has finally hit theaters. Packed with non-stop action and excitement, the film features intense car chases and explosions. But beyond that, there’s an unexpected link between Bad Boys: Ride or Die and the movie that kickstarted the Marvel Cinematic Universe – Iron Man.
Before the movie hit theaters, the directors, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, teased fans with a sneak peek of their editing plans. And there, they dropped the surprising connection while discussing their ideas.
Here’s How Bad Boys: Ride or Die Has an Unexpected Connection to Iron Man
Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah recently gave a peek into what the editing process of their upcoming film, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, was like. They wanted to make the movie flow effortlessly to keep viewers hooked from beginning to end. “We really went for the word ‘flomatic,'” Bilall explained, using a term they made up to describe the movie’s perfect rhythm. He continued in an interview with Collider:
That’s what we’ve been saying – flomatic…. Yeah, flow automatically. That’s what we really went for during the script phase, during the shoots, even the visual style.
Here’s where it gets interesting: To nail the “flomatic” editing style, the directors brought in veteran editor Dan Lebental. Interestingly, he also edited the first MCU film, Iron Man. El Arbi revealed:
We had the editor Dan Lebental who edited the first Iron Man. So basically the MCU started with him and we told him the whole time, he’s got to flow like the whole MCU. You know even faster than that and that’s how he you know got the pace really going.
The experienced editor knew how to tell stories quickly from his work on Iron Man, which was just right for the intense action of Bad Boys, too. He was also the editor of the 2020’s Bad Boys for Life.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die Scores Big at the Box Office
The new Bad Boys movie, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, did well at the box office over the weekend, bringing in $56 million (as reported by Variety). This is good news for Hollywood, which has been struggling to sell tickets lately.
Starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the film is the fourth one in the Bad Boys series. It’s also Smith’s first big movie since he slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars in 2022.
The film didn’t beat the box office record of the previous movie, Bad Boys for Life, which made $62 million (via The Numbers) on its opening weekend. However, it is still a strong start for the film.
