“WTF is that?”: Anya Taylor-Joy’s Otherworldly First Look as Furiosa Opposite Chris Hemsworth Draws Wild Fan Reactions
Having made her television debut in 2015 with a role in the 2015 fantasy drama Atlantis, Anya Taylor-Joy did not have to wait too long for her breakthrough in Hollywood. Her performance in Robert Eggers’ period horror film The Witch, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received critical acclaim upon its release.
Anya Taylor-Joy gained prominence for her portrayal of an orphaned chess prodigy named Beth Harmon, who struggles with drug and alcohol addiction while simultaneously rising to the top of the chess world, in the Netflix miniseries The Queen’s Gambit. She was cast as the titular character in George Miller’s upcoming movie, Furiosa, and the first look of her character has garnered some frenzied reactions from fans.

Anya Taylor-Joy’s First Look as Furiosa Leaves Fans in A Frenzy
A couple of months ago, Anya Taylor-Joy made headlines after it was reported that she had gotten married to the American musician, Malcolm McRae, whom she had been dating since 2021. The wedding took place at the palace Palazzo Pisani Moretta in Venice, Italy.
In 2022, Taylor-Joy starred in Mark Mylod’s black comedy, The Menu, which earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination. In March 2020, it was reported that George Miller had been on the lookout for an actress for the role of Furiosa, previously played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road, in the eponymous movie. Later, it was announced that one of the candidates, Anya Taylor-Joy, had been cast in the titular role.
At the CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil, the convention floor of Warner Bros. released the first look of Anya Taylor-Joy’s character Furiosa. Fans have had some rather wild reactions to the new look, as one of them incredulously asked: “WTF is that?”

Anya Taylor-Joy Might Have Edgar Wright to Thank for Her Furiosa Role
Anya Taylor-Joy has appeared in movies of numerous genres, which stands as a testament to her range as an actress. In fact, it was later revealed that it was her performance in Edgar Wright’s 2021 movie Last Night in Soho that led legendary director George Miller to have Taylor-Joy audition for Furiosa.
In an interview with Empire magazine, both Miller and Wright went into the details of how the Emma actress landed on the Mad Max director’s radar. Through a virtual audition, the actress was asked to perform the ‘Mad as hell’ monologue from Sidney Lumet’s Network. This sealed the deal for the two parties. Furiosa, also starring Chris Hemsworth, is set to have a summer release.
