As fans wait for Tolerance is Extinction part 3 to release on May 15, they can brush up on their knowledge of the characters and storylines shown so far in X-Men ‘97. Beau DeMayo helps by sharing snippets from other works on X (formerly Twitter) to help fans understand the show better. Looking at how the events of episode 9 unfolded, it is safe to say that we might be introduced to a brand new character in the show.

The 1993 comic book crossover event called Fatal Attractions seems to be the base of this storyline where Xavier wipes out Magneto’s mind when the latter pulls the Adamantium out of Wolverine’s claws. However, something horrible happens as soon as Xavier enters Magneto’s mind. A new mutant is born with the darker aspects of both Xavier and Magneto called Onslaught.

The psionic entity shines bright with immense physical and mental abilities. He is an antagonist in the comics, exuding the worst characteristics of the two primary mutants. Said to be one of the scariest lovechild mutants since he is made with two subconsciouses, Onslaught appeared in X-Men Prime #1 and later got his own crossover storyline in Fatal Attractions. Given his wide-spanning impact on the mutants, it might be a possibility that Onslaught is being set up as the central villain of X-Men ‘97 season 2.

The reason why setting up Onslaught as the central villain of the upcoming season of X-Men ‘97 is a great one is because the comics suggest he conjoins the universes of the X-Men and the Avengers. His powers are so vast and immense and he cannot be stopped by one entity alone. Much like Bastion, Onslaught demands teamwork and dedication on the team of heroes’ part.

Considering how Kevin Feige is setting up the stage at the MCU to welcome the mutants with Deadpool & Wolverine, the universe can widen with the help of X-Men ‘97 as well. Moreover, a rebooted version of Fantastic Four is also in the works, another amazing intersection since the X-Men ask for their help too while defeating Onslaught.
