With only one episode left in season 1, X-Men ’97 continues to deliver surprises, and that’s for sure. Episode 9 featured a brutal fight between Wolverine and Magneto, with a shocking outcome that has fans wondering about Wolverine’s future.

Episode 9 of X-Men ’97 ended with some intense scenes. The season finale saw Wolverine take a dark turn. As Magneto attacked Professor X, Wolverine lunged in and stabbed the villain through the chest. This act of violence was even more surprising because the line Wolverine uttered – “The brave are always the first to die” – was originally a threat spoken by Magneto himself back in 1993!

When Wolverine attacked Magneto, it looked like the X-Men might win. But Magneto, who can control metal, proved he’s still a big threat. Wolverine’s bones and claws are made of a super-strong metal called Adamantium. In a scene eerily similar to a famous comic book moment, Magneto ripped the Adamantium right out of Wolverine’s body.

In X-Men #25 (1993), there’s a similar showdown between Wolverine and Magneto. While Magneto ripping the metal out of his body looked super painful (and it probably was!), Wolverine has a special power – a super healing factor. This means his body can heal from almost any injury. So, while Wolverine might be hurt and grumpy right now, but there’s a good chance he’ll pull through.

Jean Grey’s Fate Also Hangs in the Balance

Another major cliffhanger involves Jean Grey. Mister Sinister takes control of Cable, forcing him to attack Jean, using his strong telekinetic powers to overpower her. Jean tries to reach out to Cyclops through telepathy for help, but their connection suddenly cuts off.

Even though Jean’s death isn’t shown in the episode, the fact that we don’t see her body gives us hope that she might still be alive. Like Magneto, Jean could be badly hurt but not necessarily dead. Plus, in the X-Men universe, Jean’s death and resurrection have been recurring themes. This might be a setup for a similar storyline for Jean in the show.

Episode 9 of X-Men ’97 masterfully sets the stage for the season finale. With Wolverine stripped of his adamantium and Jean Grey’s fate hanging in the balance, fans are left desperate for answers.
