The announcement of Hugh Jackman’s returning to reprise his role as Wolverine after seven years had fans thrilled for the movie. The new trailer showcases TVA taking Deadpool from his reality and sending him on a mission that is reportedly going to change the history of the MCU, along with Wolverine. But fans are not happy with the one minute detail they noticed in the trailer.

Hugh Jackman finally wears the iconic yellow & blue Wolverine costume in Deadpool & Wolverine

After portraying the character of Wolverine for almost twenty years, the makers finally decided to put Hugh Jackman in the iconic yellow and blue costume, which was immortalized in the ‘90s animated series. In 2020, X-Men producer Ralph Winter touched upon the subject of the joke lingering around the yellow costume and said,

“There’s a joke in the movie about yellow spandex, which was directed at the fans. It wasn’t to irritate them but to say, ‘Hey, we hear you. We understand what you want. We understand you’d rather have everybody in traditional garb. But we also have to make a movie that reaches a wide audience to justify the budget.”

Hugh Jackman had never worn the signature yellow & blue costume

James Mangold, director of The Wolverine and Logan, addressed the long debate about Jackman donning the signature costume in the deleted scene from The Wolverine. He mentioned on his X account that they never made a version of the outfit, which means Jackman never put it on and there are no pictures.

However, the reason Jackman never put on the yellow costume before donning it in Deadpool & Wolverine was simply to avoid the attention it would bring to his character. One of the reasons was that the X-Men team was given dulled-down costumes to fit the period at the time.

Jackman’s look with a black leather outfit fit the scenario in the movie; hence, that stayed. But now, the signature outfit of the superhero is back, and the actor looks very comfortable in the new trailer donning his super flashy costume. Fans of the actor and the character are very excited to see him on-screen in his signature costume.

The sleeveless yellow and blue costume with bright blue gloves, large shoulder pads, a mask, and black stripes across the suit was introduced in Incredible Hulk #180. However, eagle-eyed fans pointed out that Jackman’s Wolverine, who had sleeves at the beginning of the trailer, will end up losing his sleeves at some point in the movie.

Apart from sleeves, fans pointed out the changes in Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine costume

The new trailer showcases Hugh Jackman’s costume in full display, but one thing that fans noticed was the changes Marvel Studios made to the signature costume. Apart from the character eventually losing his sleeves, the costume has specific sheaths for him to be able to release his claws.

Fans noted the changes in Hugh Jackman’s signature costume

The trailer focused on Jackman’s Wolverine, and fans noted that the iconic mask didn’t appear. Some fans noted that Wolverine and Deadpool’s costumes did have some similarities, including the style, pattern on the abdomen, boot design, and more. But fans express their views on one specific detail of Jackman’s costume: the removal of shoulder pads. A user commented, ‘Someone, please tell me why they took off the shoulder guards when the sleeves are off. Ruins the whole Wolverine look.’

But a user replied by stating, Who cares? It’s Hugh Jackman in a yellow suit. Y’ll nerds can’t appreciate anything.’

Another mention is that they remember the time when everyone was just happy to see his suit in a box during a post-credit scene. A fan commented that we got Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine, and the nerds are crying about the sleeves.

It is aptly said that one cannot please the entire world with their actions. For the longest time, fans wanted the actor to reprise his character, and when he did, they wanted him to wear his signature outfit, and now it’s the shoulder guards.

A lot of people defended the studios by stating that they should just be happy with the fact that the actor has now returned as their favorite character and not worry about the shoulder guards.

Deadpool & Wolverine is scheduled for release on July 26, 2024.
