Jada Pinkett Smith’s memoir Worthy was published on 17th October and ahead of the book’s release, the actress appeared on Today’s show where she revealed that she and Will Smith had been separated for seven years. She said,
“I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted from trying. I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
But she also mentioned that there will be no divorce on paper and they are now trying to rebuild their marriage and heal their relationship. The actress noted,
“We really have been working hard. That’s the whole thing. We are working very hard at bringing our relationship together. Back to a life partnership. Here’s the thing about husband-wife marriage for me, for my healing process. I came into that with very specific ideas that were blocks to me seeing Will as who he is. He can’t be this perfect, ideal husband. I have to be able to accept him for the human that he is, he accepts me for the human that I am.”
Pinkett Smith also added that the duo wants to love each other for who they are.

Statements from Jada Pinkett Smith led to fans going back to Will Smith’s memoir, which was just a total bombshell of revelations from the actor, but what caught everyone’s eye was his thoughts on divorce. He wrote via Today,
“I would never have gotten married if I thought divorce was an option. If quitting is a possibility, everyone will pick that — it’s the easiest one.”
The actor appeared on Red Table Talk in 2018 and shared that when his ex-wife Sheree Zampino filed for divorce it hit him hard and he told her “No. You can’t have a divorce and she hit me with, ‘So you’re going to make somebody stay with you who doesn’t love you?’ And I said, ‘I’m actually not. Nope, I’m not. And that was the one that got me.” The former couple share a son, Trey Smith, who was born in 1992.

In her interview with the NY Times, the actress said that she was shocked when Will Smith called her his wife at the 2022 Academy Awards, but added,
