Matthew McConaughey claims his fortune teller told him to do a film
McConaughey, who played Benjamin Barry in the movie How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, praises a fortune teller for influencing the direction of his career. The 53-year-old actor recently opened up to Vanity Fair about how he was considering whether or not to sign on for the 2003 romantic comedy when he received a sign from the universe in the form of a man telling him to do it.
McConaughey stated,
“I recall thinking about whether I was going to do it or not one night while on a walk down Sunset Boulevard. He was a guru fortune teller, and he suddenly appeared in front of me, asking, Can I tell you your fortune real quick?”
The Magic Like actor went on,
“He quickly responds, there’s a movie you’re thinking about right now. It is a romantic comedy. You must do this, or it will be one of your greatest regrets. It’s going to be a blast, a fantastic experience, and it’s going to bring in a ton of cash.”
If a fortune teller hadn’t persuaded Matthew McConaughey that it would be so beneficial for his career, he almost didn’t star opposite Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Kate Hudsone Matthew McConaughey’s co-star revealed how they found him for Benjamin Barry’s role
Kate Hudson, McConaughey’s co-star, who also spoke to the same news outlet as part of a homage to the film’s 20th anniversary, joined the cast without the supposed aid of any supernatural being, unlike her co-star. She did, however, tell the publication that it took some time to narrow down potential Benjamin Barrys until McConaughey’s name was mentioned and the search was finally over.
“We were debating who would be the right fit as we were looking at guys. For me, the man was really important. I thought that was a fantastic idea when Matthew was mentioned at a meeting. I admired his vigor. We got along pretty well right away,” Hudson recalls. In addition, Kate Hudson stated that there are no plans for a sequel, as the cast of the movie is celebrating its 20th anniversary this week.
Matthew McConaughey has been happily married to Brazilian model Camila Alves for a decade, with whom he has three children.
