“You just exposed my little trick”: Harrison Ford Angered Podcast Host After Revealing an Infamous Prank With a LEGO Millennium Falcon Was All Scripted
Harrison Ford is one of the best performers in the business, and his fans love him even more for his combination of wit and sarcasm as well as his near-perfect ability to portray his roles on screen.
The public and critics had conflicting opinions of the actor’s most recent film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, but many did praise his performance. Ford’s July interview with Conan O’Brien has reappeared online, demonstrating the actor’s talent for roasting the host as well.
Harrison Ford said destroying the Lego Millennium Falcon was fun
Actor Harrison Ford appeared on Conan O’Brien’s podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend in July, and during the conversation, O’Brien reminded him that he had appeared on his show nine times. Over the years, many people would ask the host who is his favorite guest, to which he would answer that it’s Ford because he is funny.
O’Brien further added,
“You are so hilariously funny and you tossed me around like a ragdoll, verbally, on these shows and they’re some of my favorite segments of all time. You are a hilarious man and I’ve always loved being around you.”
However, the actor replied in a sarcastic comment stating that they wrote some great stuff, adding that he does not remember any of it. Somewhere in the conversation, the host reminded Ford about the time when he had appeared on his show and how TV producer Jordan Schlansky presented him with a Lego Millennium Falcon to sign, but Ford had destroyed it by throwing it up over his head.
Ford then took the opportunity to correct the host, stating,
“Those of you at home don’t know how these things work, let me point out, that this was a scripted bit.” He added, then O’Brien suggested to him that it would be funny if he’d destroyed it, to which the host agreed that it was indeed funny.
Conan also added that Ford would be a terrible magician’s assistant as he would appear and tell the audience that what they saw as the magic trick was nothing but a sad sham. He noted, “I just see you as a terrible magician’s assistant but you just exposed my little trick.”
Jordan Schlansky on the Lego Millennium Falcon skit
During an interview, Jordan Schlansky cleared the air and said it was really fun to get Harrison Ford to do that. He explained,
“I’m guessing [Ford] gets a lot of requests to do Star Wars stuff, so we were unsure if he’d want to do something silly like that and he was totally up for it. That’s one of the things I get asked about the most. People are always asking: ‘Was it real? Did he really break it?’ He did really break it. It was real. The only extenuating circumstance was, it was not mine.”
He further explained that they have a writer whose colleague built that Lego in 60 hours and had volunteered for its demise, adding,
“Are you kidding? It’s the honor of a lifetime to have your LEGO Millennium Falcon destroyed by Han Solo himself.”
Harrison Ford does not want to retire
During his appearance on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? Harrison Ford was asked if he had any plans to retire, to which the actor admitted that he does not do well when he is not working. He said,
“I love to work. I love to feel useful. It’s my Jones. I want to be helpful.” The host went ahead to ask him about his favorite part of making movies, to which Ford said it is the people that they get to work with, adding the intensity and the intimacy of collaboration.
Ford continued,
“It’s the combined ambition somehow forged from words on a page. I don’t plan what I want to do in a scene, and I don’t feel obliged to do anything. But the things that I work on, I guess, naturally affect me.”
Talking about his comment on the latest movie being ambitious, Ford replied that he wanted the movie to confront the question of age straight-on and not hide his age, but instead take advantage of it in telling the story.
