‘You mean I have to audition by reading? I don’t read’: James Cameron Was Pissed at Leonardo DiCaprio During ‘Titanic’ Audition Because Leo Kept Acting Like an Entitled Brat
There is no doubt that Leonardo DiCaprio’s life has been a great success ever since Titanic came on the screen. On the 19th of December 1997, the movie Titanic was released. In addition to DiCaprio, Kate Winslet also shared her role in the movie. DiCaprio played the role of Jake in the film, whereas Winslet played the role of Rose.
Titanic is a fiction built out of a real story of the sinking of the great ship Titanic, which tells the tale of two lovers, Rose and Jack. Rose, who is about to get married, meets Jack on the Titanic ship, an artist, and later on, she starts loving him. Unfortunately, DiCaprio refused to audition for the movie. He rejected the audition part and was thanked by the director for coming there.
Leonardo DiCaprio refused the audition for Titanic
It was Cameron who said that he had thanked DiCaprio for at least coming into the audition. However, even though he was full of attitude when he was 22 years old, Leonardo DiCaprio refused to go with the audition. The director of Titanic movie recently revealed all of this in an interview with GQ magazine.
The Titanic movie director wanted to see the chemistry between DiCaprio and Winslet. It will decide whether he will take DiCaprio as the male lead in Titanic. Considering this, Cameron said, “When Leo came in, he charmed everybody, including me. And I said, ‘All right, let’s see what his chemistry is like with Kate. Cameron wanted to check whether the roles fit best, which DiCaprio later refused.
DiCaprio disagreed, saying, ‘Wait, you mean I have to audition by reading? Because I don’t read”. Despite his disappointment, Cameron shook his hand, expressed gratitude for coming to the audition, and thanked him for his time.

DiCaprio was in confusion when such things happened. He asked the director: “Wait, wait, wait, wait. Do you mean I don’t get the part if I don’t read it? Just like that?” The director replied: “This is a gigantic movie that will take two years of my life, so I’m not going to screw it up by making the wrong casting decision. So you’re going to read, or you’re not going to get the part.'”
Later on, DiCaprio got ready to go with the audition and gave his best in it with Kate Winslet. Cameron said that DiCaprio is difficult to understand. He mentioned, “Every ounce of his being was so negative, right up until I said, ‘Action!’ At that point, he became Jack”.
Several awards have been given to the movie Titanic, which broke all records. In addition, there was a tremendous amount of love for the two leads on the part of the audience.
