“You never want to rush to ER”: James Wan Disturbed After 2 Scary Days in Hospital Ahead of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman 2 Release
James Wan has worked as a writer, producer, and director on some of the most successful horror franchises of the last two decades, including M3gan and Insidious: The Red Door. James Wan has also worked on forthcoming films such as Saw X, The Nun 2, and the DC film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will be released in December and stars Jason Momoa.
Despite the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strike, Warner Bros. has opted not to postpone the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, according to Variety. The sequel film, which is also the final film in the DCEU, will be released in theaters on December 20. However, the director’s health has become a major priority recently.

James Wan’s wife Ingrid Bisu provides health updates
Director James Wan recently shared a picture of him from Cedar Sinai Medical Center located in Los Angeles, California, where he thanked the hospital for the care and support they provided to him.
Ingrid Bisu, who is married to the director, also took to her social media stories to share the experience by adding a thank you for the hospital. She wrote,
“It has been an extremely rough and scary couple of days and nights. You never want to rush to the ER in the middle of the night and then have to stay in the hospital. Cedars Sinai is truly the best. The best doctors, nurses, technicians, just the most wonderful people.”
Bisu further provided some information about the director as she noted that James Wan is safe now and on the mend. There has not been much information known as of now about why the director was rushed to the ER, but it has been reported that he is doing so much better now. The official Twitter account of DCU also extended their wishes for the director wishing him a speedy recovery.

James Wan explains Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was always a ‘standalone’ movie
The last DCEU movie, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom starring Jason Momoa has been postponed multiple times from March 17th, 2023 to December 25th, 2023, and fans did raise concerns about whether the movie would have any impact on the rebooted DC Universe. The director said that the movie is a standalone project. During an interview with ComicBook, he said,
“Well, Aquaman – even the first film – has always been a very standalone film. That was always our approach: that it kind of lives in its own world, and that’s kind of how we’ve approached The Lost Kingdom as well.”
Wan continued to explain,
“You know, people love Jason Momoa; people love him playing this role; and people love the action visuals of this space and this world. And that’s what we’re doing: we’re taking it to the next level and we are still expanding – and just any fans of Aquaman the character, that love Black Manta, this is the next level and I’m very excited to finally put out there to show them what we’ve been working on all these years.”
The plot of the upcoming sequel is still very much under wraps, but the director has noted that many more underwater kingdoms will be explored in the sequel. Most of them are not necessarily related to what is happening with other movies and characters.
James Wan expresses his views on the current state of cinema
During an interview with Movieweb last month, the director shared that he thinks a lot of changes that have been happening in the cinema now compared to when he started working can be attributed to how audiences are changing. He added
“Younger audiences really gravitate to the horror genre. It’s always been popular, and it’s always been around, but what I discovered with The Conjuring is, if you make a movie people really want to see and it connects with people, it doesn’t matter what time of the year you release it.”
The director also pointed out that he does feel that there is an art to releasing a movie, but he thinks the landscape of cinema has shifted so much in recent times that one can release a horror movie in the summer and compete with blockbuster films.
