“You want to ride every horse as long as it rides”: Charmed Star Shannen Doherty Wants to ‘Squeeze out’ 3-5 Years – Experimental Therapy Can Save Her from Cancer?
Since 2015, actress Shannen Doherty has been open about the challenges that come along with cancer. The Charmed star was diagnosed with the disease years back and has reached the harrowing stage 4 of cancer.
Despite her health condition, the actress stays positive and charismatic about living her best life. The Hot Seat star recently expressed her desire to extend a few more years of her life through experimental therapy. Shannen Doherty is optimistic about the T-cell therapy that has the potential to increase the actress’s life span for a few more years.
Shannen Doherty Wants To Extend Few More Years of Her Life Through T-Cell Therapy
Shannen Doherty, known for her lasting impact on the TV series Charmed, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Since then she has been optimistic about living the best life by adopting and experimenting with various treatments. Recently, the Breast Cancer Bucket List star has shared her willingness to extend her life through therapies like T-Cell, and others that might develop with time, helping Doherty cure the disease.

During an episode of her podcast Let’s Be Clear, Doherty was joined by her guest oncologist Dr. Lawrence Piro, along with whom the Fortress star spoke about having breast cancer and compared the disease with a horse race. Shannen Doherty said:
“I always talk about the fact that we just need to squeeze out another three to five years, and then there’s going to be T-cell therapy or there’s going to be this. There’s going to be a lot more options that will give another five years.”
Agreeing with the actress, Dr. Lawrence Piro took the example of a horse race to explain cancer and its treatments. He added:
“I always say that it’s important to think of each therapy as a horse, and in a horse race, you want to ride every horse as long as it rides, and then you ride the next horse as much as possible… you hope you make it a few laps then there’s altogether another new set of horses to ride, to make the race that much longer.”
The oncologist encouraged Shannen Doherty to be optimistic about her recovery and even motivated her to be hopeful about the emergence of new treatments in the coming years. The No One Would Tell star utilizes her podcast channel to raise awareness about breast cancer and address the concerns related to it.
Shannen Doherty Desired To Have a Child With Ex-Husband Kurt Iswarienko
Shannen Doherty has been open about the challenge that came along with breast cancer and even restricting the actress from becoming a mother. The Growing the Big One star wanted to proceed with the IVF procedure to have a child with her then-husband Kurt Iswarienko, however, til that time Doherty reached menopause and couldn’t have the procedure. In her podcast, she said:
“Not only did I want a child for myself, but I wanted it for my husband. I wanted it for our marriage, I wanted him to have that part of himself fulfilled as well.”
The actress’s disease has even reached the bones and as a result, Shannen Doherty decided not to have a child. The couple filed for a divorce in 2023, and according to People, Doherty’s reps. said “Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted. Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option.” The couple ended their 11 years of marriage last year.
