After being extremely frustrated with the amount he got from Spotify, the rap star discussed how artists could fairly monetize money and found NFTs as the best solution. Snoop Dogg revealed that despite hitting 1 billion streams on Spotify, he startingly received less than $45,000. The Beautiful maker said:

“In the streaming world, I can show you right now. They just sent me some sh*t from Spotify, where I got a billion streams right. My publisher hit me. I said, ‘Break that down, how much money is that?’ That sh*t wasn’t even $45,000.”

Snoop Dogg getting less than $45K for 1 billion streams is literally unbelievable, and that’s when it shocked everyone on the podcast, and including his fans. The rapper also mentioned that the film and music industry lacks “transparency”, and with the traditional streaming model, the original artist has to split up the money and ends up getting paid far less.

The Lay Low rapper emphasized NFTs, completely different from the traditional model where executive labels take up half of the revenue, leaving the artist with a minimum sum. Snoop Dogg explained that NFTs allow artists to earn a direct percentage every time their work is sold or resold. So, the astonishing sum he received from Spotify, prompted the rap star’s interest in NFTs.
