Young Sheldon’s Finale Breaks The Show’s One Massive Record But Still Falls Short of Beating The Big Bang Theory’s Last Episode
Young Sheldon, the prequel series to the beloved sitcom The Big Bang Theory, wrapped up its seventh season on 16th May with a bang! While it set a new record for the show itself, it couldn’t quite match the massive viewership of its predecessor’s grand finale.
The Big Bang Theory isn’t just funny, it also made science and geeky things cool for everyone. The CBS show even inspired a whole generation of viewers. The show’s success proves that jokes that make you think and characters you can relate to can be a hit with all kinds of people.
Young Sheldon Finale Sets Record, Still Trails The Big Bang Theory
As reported by Deadline, Young Sheldon‘s last episode pulled in a strong 8.95 million viewers, the show’s highest since season 3. In 2020, the Season 3 finale received 10.15 million same-day viewers. However, there’s no denying the juggernaut that was The Big Bang Theory finale.
The last episode of BBT wasn’t just popular with viewers, it crushed the ratings! Especially among young adults (ages 18-49), the show scored its highest rating in when it ended in 2019. This is all the power of The Big Bang Theory and how it kept viewers hooked and laughing until the end.
But the good news doesn’t stop there! Nearly 18 million people (Variety) tuned in for the finale (double the number of Young Sheldon), making it the most-watched episode of the entire season.
Young Sheldon Season 7 has a Satisfying Finale
Spoilers ahead!
The finale of Young Sheldon Season 7 paid tribute to the Cooper family’s loss and gave a peek into Sheldon’s future. The episode dealt with the emotional aftermath of George Cooper’s sudden death. Fans saw how each member of the family grieved in their own way – Mary (mother of Sheldon, played by Zoe Perry) sought solace in religion and Sheldon retreated into himself.
The episode also featured the return of Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik as adult Sheldon and his wife Amy from The Big Bang Theory. In the episode, they bicker playfully and learned that they have a son, Leonard, who plays hockey (much to Sheldon’s amusement).
The finale offered a heartwarming moment when Sheldon, as a child, agreed to get baptized for his mom’s sake. In the present day, Amy uses this memory to convince Sheldon to attend his son Leonard’s hockey game.
The past and present storylines converged when Sheldon (reflecting on his childhood) realized the importance of showing up for loved ones. The episode ended with him standing on the campus of Caltech, the place where his scientific journey would truly begin. This final scene brings the story full circle, showing how the young Sheldon we met in season one has grown and matured.
