Zack Snyder, credited with directing some of the best movies of the DC Extended Universe, is back with yet another great movie to enthrall his fans. Rebel Moon, his most recent project, is heavily inspired by Star Wars, the works of the well-known filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, and sci-fi comic Heavy Metal magazines.

The development of Rebel Moon began way back in 2012. Zack Snyder had pitched it to Lucasfilm after its acquisition by The Walt Disney Company. However, that did not happen and then the project was reworked by Snyder alongside producer Eric Newman. After years of back and forth, the movie is finally out, and there is one particular aspect that fans cannot deny loving.

Fans Love This Thing About Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon

It comes as no surprise that Zack Snyder has millions of fans across the world. It is hard to escape his gripping storytelling technique, especially since he has made blockbuster comic book movies like Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League.

Rebel Moon is a story set in a different galaxy that is governed by the dominant power of Motherworld. A peaceful farming colony situated on the moon Veldt is threatened by Motherworld’s formidable military Imperium. Kora, a former member of Imperium, embarks on a daring mission to gather a diverse assembly of fighters from various corners of the galaxy, to rebel against Imperium upon their return to Veldt.

While the movie has received mostly negative reviews, Rebel Moon‘s cinematography is the one particular thing that fans have fallen in love with. One of the fans wrote on X: “Rebel Moon is easily the best looking movie of 2023.”

The Snyders Were Excited to Create a New Universe

Working on the same universe over and over again can be redundant and even get boring at one point. So, it makes sense that Zack Snyder and his wife Deborah Snyder, who is also his production partner, got excited about creating a new universe.

Addressing this during Rebel Moon’s press conference in Tokyo (via Gizmodo), Deborah Snyder said:

“After working for over a decade on DC, where it was such strict canon, it was so refreshing to create something on our own, to not have those limitations. It was really exciting for us to create something that was wholly original, and also that made it so challenging because there was nothing that existed. Everything just existed in Zack’s head. So we had to figure out how to make that come alive.”

Zack Snyder has definitely done a good job of bringing the universe to life, save for a few shortcomings that have made Rebel Moon fall short of people’s expectations from the movie.
