Zendaya is Yet to Unlock Emma Stone’s One Career Achievement Despite Starring in Mega-hit Franchises like Spider-Man and Dune
Zendaya is one of the most successful and popular actresses in the industry. The actress, with her performances in movies including Spider-Man, Dune, Malcolm & Marie, and more, managed to impress both the critics and the audience. But her portrayal of a recovering drug-addicted teenager in Sam Levinson’s Euphoria cemented her place as one of the finest actresses in the industry.
The young actress recently appeared in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers alongside Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor. The movie received positive response from the critics and the audience, with special mention of Zendaya’s performance as Tashi Duncan. But Zendaya has a long way to go to find success in movies that do not belong to any franchise, unlike Emma Stone, who has cracked it.
Emma Stone and Zendaya surprisingly share a few things in common
Zendaya and Emma Stone are known to be two of the most talented and versatile actresses in the industry currently. Stone and Zendaya have never worked together on a project, but they do share some similarities. They have worked in the Spider-Man movies, along with portraying a tennis player on screen.
The young actress played MJ in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, while Stone played Gwen Stacy in Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man. Stone also portrayed Billie Jean King in Battle of the Sexes, whereas Zendaya portrayed Tashi Duncan in Challengers. Also the two of them dated their co-stars from the Spider-Man movies.
But if there is something that the two of them do not share in common, it is their career choices, despite both of them being very successful. Stone has been a part of critically acclaimed movies including Poor Things, La La Land, Cruella, and more, while Zendaya has found success in more franchise-based movies, including Dune and Spider-Man.
Even though the young actress has experienced success, critics have mentioned that it’s different when, as an artist, you are a part of stand-alone movies. This is why Challengers was important for Zendaya, as she mentioned in an interview with Vogue (via Empire).
People see me as a teenager, since I was a teenager for so long. But this is really, finally me being able to play a woman closer to my own age.
Challengers’ success and reviews for the actress have proved that Zendaya does have a lot of potential as the lead of stand-alone movies. She is now looking forward to transitioning into more mature, dramatic roles, which can showcase to the audience the kind of actress she is. However, she won’t be abandoning the teen roles, as she will reprise her character as Rue Bennett in Euphoria for season three.
Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, blasts fashion houses for refusing to dress her early in her career
It is known to everyone that Zendaya and Law Roach share a beautiful bond, and she trusts him with her outfits. The stylist appeared on The Cutting Room Floor podcast, where he revealed and blasted five top fashion houses by stating that they refused to dress the actress when she started (via Variety)
I would write the big five. I would write Saint Laurent, Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, and Dior, and they would all say, ‘No, try again next year. She’s too green. She’s not on our calendar. I still have the receipts. By the time she got to the cover of American Vogue in 2017, she had never worn any of those designers. She still hasn’t.
Roach clarified that the actress has been dressed by fashion houses in editorial shoots but never in public or red-carpet events. He added that the first time she wore Valentino in public was when the actress had a contract. He continued,
When I said, ‘If you say no, it’ll be a no forever’, that rang true for a long, long time.
Zendaya recently created a buzz with her MET Gala looks, where she served as one of the co-chairs of the event. She arrived in a custom-made Maison Margiela gown by John Galliano and later surprised everyone with her second appearance in an archival Givenchy look, again by John Galliano.
Challengers is available to rent or purchase on Prime Video and Apple TV+.
