In 2019, the filmmaker graced the silver screens with the movie Knives Out, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He is now working on the second sequel to the movie. Saying that the upcoming film’s cast is star-studded is like saying the earth revolves around the sun. If you thought Avengers: Endgame‘s cast had the best of Hollywood, you might want to reconsider it after learning about the actors who are going to appear in this new Knives Out movie.

After leaving his indelible mark on the mystery genre, Rian Johnson directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It is the eighth installment of the franchise and was released in 2017. Besides receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences, the movie also grossed over $1 billion at the box office (via The Numbers), becoming his most commercially successful movie so far.

Johnson’s return to the mystery genre was marked by Knives Out, which has spawned two sequels (one of them is still under development) so far. The first sequel was 2022’s Glass Onion, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Both of these movies had a star-studded cast, but the cast for the second sequel is seemingly going to outdo both of those in terms of the casting from what is known of the movie so far.

While Daniel Craig, known for portraying the spy James Bond in five movies, is returning as the detective Benoit Blanc in the movie, according to Tudum, the all-new cast of suspects includes Andrew Scott, Jeremy Renner, Cailee Spaeny, Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Josh Brolin, and Kerry Washington among others.

The filming of the movie has already begun according to the update the director himself posted on X, in which Daniel Craig can be seen in character. Judging from the star cast, it is going to be a visual treat. This is exactly what The Brothers Bloom director intends to do if his statement to Tudum is anything to go by. He likened his casting approach to “throwing a dinner party” and told the outlet:

We’ve been very lucky with each of these movies to have gathered some of my favorite actors on the planet, and that’s absolutely the case here. They’re also all lovely folks who get along, which is the dinner party aspect of it. When you’re making an ensemble movie like this, I think that’s key.

Johnson has collected all these actors like Josh Brolin’s Thanos collected the Infinity Stones in Avengers: Infinity War. Hopefully, the impact of the casting will be as impressive as the ensemble cast itself.

Knives Out and Glass Onion are available for streaming on Netflix.
