The movie follows the story of a boy who falls for his father’s graduate student assistant while on a holiday in Italy. The critics and the audience lauded the chemistry between the two actors. Upon release, the movie received critical acclaim, especially for the brilliant screenplay, direction, cinematography, and of course the convincing performances of the actors.

Call Me By Your Name received four nominations at the 90th Academy Awards and won the Best Adapted Screenplay. The film is regarded as one of the best of the 21st century. But Chalamet and Hammer’s friendship was shaken after Hammer was accused of r**e in March 2021. After the allegations made it to the headlines, private messages between Hammer and various other women started to leak online.

The messages that were made public revealed Hammer’s sexual fantasies, such as cannibalism. These allegations hit when Timothée Chalamet was gearing up to play a cannibal in Bones and All. Chalamet had grown closer to Armie Hammer and his wife when they were filming Call Me By Your Name, so it was pretty obvious that publications would have wanted the actor to speak up about the situation.

In his cover story for GQ, Chalamet was asked about his opinion on the cannibalism part of the allegations, as Hammer’s private life and Chalamet’s movie Bones and All became synonymous with one another. To which he said,

I mean, what were the chances that we were developing this thing? It made me feel like Now I’ve got to do this. Because this is actually based on a book.

The young actor who is gearing up for the release of A Complete Unknown, in which he plays Bob Dylan, was asked about how he processed the allegations. He said he does not know why adding these things ends up getting clickbait so intensely, which is why disorienting is a good word.

When speaking to Time Magazine, Timothée Chalamet simply said that he does not want to give any partial response to a question that is worthy of a larger conversation.

Timothée Chalamet refused to take profits from his work on Woody Allen’s movies

The French-American actor is without a doubt one of the most high-profile male actors in the industry with whom every director wants to work. Woody Allen was also interested in working with him on 2018’s A Rainy Day in New York. Woody Allen had been the subject of decades-long allegations of s*xual abuse by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow.

Farrow in 2017 wrote a piece for the Los Angeles Times with the title, ‘Why has the #MeToo revolution spared Woody Allen? The filmmaker denied the allegation. But Chalamet, who worked with the filmmaker in a movie, was not spared, as in his interview with CNN, he was asked if he had any qualms about the director’s behavior, to which the young actor said,

I hesitate to talk about it right now because what I say is only going to anger people. When the film comes out, if it comes out, that’s going to be really important to talk about, but it’s not the right time now.

The actor took to his social media to reflect upon how certain things in life have changed the way he looked and felt about things. He wrote that he is learning that a good role isn’t the only criterion for accepting a job. Chalamet noted that he is not able to answer the questions when asked about Woody Allen, but what he can say is that he does not want to profit from his work on Allen’s movie. He pledged that he’d donate his entire salary to charities. He mentioned that he wants to be worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with brave artists who are fighting for all people to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.

Timothée Chalamet is one of the brightest stars in the industry, and being linked to Armie Hammer and Woody Allen could have jeopardized his career, but luckily it did not. Chalamet focused on his work, picked up some really iconic characters and kept moving forward and now he is regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation.

His upcoming movie, A Complete Unknown, already has Oscar buzz for the actor, and now with Bob Dylan giving his blessing to him, it surely is Timmy’s world.
