The MCU has always competed with the DC Universe both in comic books and on the big screen. However, it appears that Marvel Studios is looking to distinguish itself even further by planning its comic convention, separate from the DCU’s FanDome event.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Plans Its Convention To Rival DCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has become one of the most successful franchises in the entertainment industry due to its blockbuster movies, TV shows, and vast comic book universe.

The event, which is tentatively called AvengerCon, will be an answer to San Diego Comic-Con as depicted in Ms. Marvel. The event will celebrate Earth’s Mightiest Heroes with exclusive merchandise and promotional content.

Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski has hinted that they are already “testing the waters” for such an event. He explained,

“We would love to do a Marvel event or a Marvel Celebration or something like that. There’s a lot of different ways we have to think about it, and different ways we can handle it.”

While there has been no official announcement yet, Cebulski assured fans that such an event could happen someday. stated,

“We’ve started events, the Marvel Insider events, and we’ve done some online X-Men and Deadpool celebrations. We’re testing the waters. Will we get there hopefully someday? Yes, without a doubt.”

According to the editor, a Marvel convention is definitely in the cards, but not in the immediate future. He expressed,

“Someday hopefully we’ll see a Marvel convention or celebration dedicated to everything that we all love in the last 60-plus years of Marvel history. But right now? Can’t say for sure.”

During the C2E2 Spider-Man and the Venomverse panel on April 1, his remarks left fans excitedly anticipating any updates about a possible Marvel convention shortly.

Disney, which owns Marvel, can host such an event, and Marvel has reportedly engaged in discussions about it. It’s unclear whether AvengersCon will happen despite a significant demand and a dedicated fan group that enjoys assembling.

Ms. Marvel’s Involvement In Marvel Convention?

Ms. Marvel, aka Kamala Khan, is one of the most exciting and dynamic characters to come out of the Marvel Comics universe in recent years. Fans were thrilled at the prospect of a real-life version of the event following the premiere of the Ms. Marvel series on Disney+.

Last year, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige expressed his interest in making this happen, citing Star Wars Celebration as the perfect proof of concept. Despite the pandemic, the desire for in-person events has not subsided.

During the press conference for Ms. Marvel, Feige explained that, despite the pandemic, production on the series took place during the middle of it, and since then, a considerable amount of time has passed.

Nevertheless, the desire for in-person events has not diminished, despite the persistent health concerns. Bisha K. Ali revealed the existence of a pitch to make AvengersCon happen in real life. She also shared,

“It was very cathartic for all of us to see that, and we were shooting Spider-Man: No Way Home on the stage right next door, the scene with the three Spideys. The crew from that movie kept sneaking over to see [AvengersCon]. I think that might be fun to do sometime. Yes.”

For now, fans can catch a glimpse of AvengerCon in Ms. Marvel, which is currently streaming on Disney+. It remains to be seen how Marvel will balance showcasing big reveals at their event and San Diego Comic-Con in the future.
