3 Things Comic Book Fans Love About MCU Spider-Man ( and 3 They Don’t)
It was a next level hype when Spider-Man finally joined the MCU as it was a dream of many fans to finally see him next to the other heroes. That dream came true when Peter Parker made his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War.
Years have passed since then and now Spidey has appeared in many MCU movies and here are 5 things which Comic book fans love and 5 they don’t about Spider-Man.
1. Love: He Is A High School Hero!
Spider-Man’s first appearance
Spider-Man debuted in Amazing Fantasy #15 as a 15 year old superhero and was a character who went to high school before his graduation in Issue #28 and then went to college.
Raimi and Webb’s Peter Parkers were out of High School by their second films, but MCU has still kept their Peter Parker in his teenage years. This is something that has been appreciated by the comic readers.
2. Hate: The Fact He Is Not Working
Spider-Man in comics, goes through struggles everyday problems in addition to fighting all the super-villains. He works really hard to be consistent in his job and pay rent while he fights all the evil schemes cooked by the villains.
But this working class aspect of his is not included in MCU version. Peter is going to a private school which goes for a mere field trip all way across Europe while the other Spider-Men (including comics) had to go to Midtown Public High School.
3. Love : His Web – Shooters
In the comic Amazing Fantasy #15, Peter Parker shortly designed his web-shooters once he got his powers.
Sam Raimi’s films had their own take on it that the webs were emerging from Peter’s wrists as a natural part of his powers and Marc Webb took his films back to the comics. MCU had a choice to go Raimi’s way but they went with Webb’s films and included the mechanical web shooters which show case what genius Peter Parker is. (any comic fan knows how intelligent he actually is )
4. Hate : His Solo Hero Is Lost
Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has done nothing to live up to the “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”. Spider-Man is actually a superhero who fights by himself and it took him until 2005, his 43rd year of publication for him to join The Avengers.
MCU’s Spidey has been of a team player, he made a debut where he was a supporting character and then has appeared in Two Avenger films and even his solo films have featured stars from the wider MCU. Which makes comic fans miss his solo action.
5. Love: The Big Identity Reveal
The last movie ended with a massive cliffhanger that Mysterio revealed Peter’s identity to the entire world. This happened in comics as well but under different scenarios. Spider-Man has always struggled to find a balance between his student life and his life as Spider-Man.
In the comics, he actually gave up his identity, but since MCU has forced his information, it could be an interesting path ahead for Peter and his family.
6. Hate: Too Much Of Iron Man
This particular point has been criticized a lot by every fan saying that MCU’s Spider-Man has been relying on Tony Stark as a mentor way too heavily. He has been molded to become Iron Man2.0 with all the tech suits. And now that Iron Man is dead, Spidey still has help from Happy.
