Kate Winslet goes makeup free for “I Am Ruth”

Kate Winslet recently attended the BBC podcast named Woman’s Hour. There the actress spoke about how she is celebrating her forties by looking beautiful and accepting aging. Winslet also opened up about acting, motherhood, and unrealistic beauty standards that Hollywood had set. The Titanic star said she is not feeling sorry for looking like a hot mess.

Winslet starred in HBO’s Mare of Easttown and received criticism for her look and addressed the double standards Hollywood has. She said, “You’d never make that much fuss or that much noise about a male actor’s appearance, would you now? No, you flipping wouldn’t.” The mother of three played the role of Detective Mare Sheehan in the show, where she wore no make and was criticized for the same. According to Winslet, this inspired her to take one step further while working on her next project.

While doing I Am Ruth, the actress didn’t have any makeup on, she just tied her hair back into a crappy ponytail, just like her usual self. Winslet confessed,

“There are a lot of myths, I think, around perfection and actresses looking perfect all the time and, and how real that is or that isn’t. And I do care about being real and telling stories that are truthful and come from a place of integrity.”

The actress, through the podcast, tried to encourage women to embrace their forties. Winslet said, “We become more woman, more powerful, more se*y. “I think it’s amazing. Let’s go girls, let’s just be in our power. Why not? Life’s too flipping short.”

The Hollywood star urged the women in their forties to not consider it as the beginning of the decline but rather embrace the natural beauty and celebrate aging.
