5 Classic Movies From The ’80s That Deserve A Sequel
Movies these days get a sequel left and right! Any movie that does well will probably get a sequel, and at times this sequel won’t probably fair well. And when their numbers are low, these movies are released on Netflix or any streaming platform and they could stay there probably forever.
Sadly, things were not exactly the same back in the 1980s. A movie would be released, people would go to the cinema, enjoy it, and if people really liked it, they would rewatch it. Then the movie would come to VHS and then on the cable.
In a few cases, the filmmaker went on to work on other projects and franchises while all we had were rumors for a sequel for years! Here are 5 movies we think deserve a sequel!
1. Innerspace
InnerspaceThe movie revolves around Tuck who is leading a dull life. But then he volunteers to be miniaturized and is put into the body of a lab rabbit. Things don’t exactly go as planned and he is accidentally injected into a hypochondriac. ( Yes you read it right, INJECTED). The movie shows us some really cool images of the human body. And this itself was enough for a sequel.
But the way this movie ended, it did seem a sequel could have happened and it would have been a bigger hit! The film did earn a domestic gross of $26 million which hints that maybe this was the reason a sequel never happened! But we would probably enjoy it now.
2. Spaceballs
When the movie Spaceballs first came out, it was hilarious. Irrespective of the fact whether you are a Star Wars fan or not, this film just struck the right chords!
The characters had some hilarious names such as Pizza the Hut, Lone Starr, Princess Vespa, Dot Matrix, Barf, and of course Dark Helmet! When the film came out, it was appreciated and audiences just laughed off at it. There didn’t seem a need for a sequel. But come on we want one film on every Star Wars episode!
The movie revolves around a hero and his half-man and half-dog who are set out to rescue a kidnapped princess!
3. Flash Gordon
Okay, maybe Flash Gordon didn’t really age well. But the sequel could still follow the comic books, right?
The movie follows Flash and Dale who are skyjacked aboard Dr. Zarkov’s rocket ship. The trio ends up on planet Mongo which is controlled by Ming. Ming has been testing the Earth with unnatural disasters. This 1980 film brought in $27.1 million dollars which was a lot back then! Still no sequel!
4. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
The movie revolves around Ferris Bueller who is a high school student. He fakes sickness to stay at home in order to spend the rest of the day with his best friend and girlfriend. But his dean is spying on him! They all do have an epic adventure!
A sequel could have focused on the main characters as to where did they end up! The movie made $70 million that too in 1986 so it was definitely a hit!
5. The Goonies
This adventure film revolved around a group of kids who are spending a few last days together before a development paves off their homes. But they come across evidence of pirates’ treasure that attracts many criminals.
It was quite an adventurous film and had it been released in today’s times, it would have definitely gotten a sequel! We have so many questions left unanswered!
