5 Things About Peter and MJ’s Relationship That Makes No Sense
Spider-Man and Mary Jane are one of the most iconic couples not just in Marvel comics but the comic book history. Sam Raimi decided to change many things in his Spider-Man (2002), and their love story was one of them.
As per the movies, MJ was a girl Peter had a crush on since he was a kid, but in comics, he didn’t meet her until much later. Many editors tried to break the couple, but fans wouldn’t let them. They have gone through many ups and downs but there are still many things about the couple which makes no sense.
1. How Do They Even Pay For Their Apartments?
This has been a very usual complaint from various forms of the fictional characters who seem to be able to afford apartments which they technically shouldn’t be able to. But Mary Jane and Spider-Man had pretty bad circumstances in this matter. There have been times when Mary Jane’s career was doing amazingly good and that is how they could afford a good apartment.
But for quite a lot of part, we see Peter is a struggling photographer and she is a struggling model. During these times, how were they able to afford these apartments that had huge giant skylights. Probably even millionaires from Marvel like Tony Stark would not be to afford such extravagant apartments.
2. How Was She Aware Of The Jackpot Line?
This scene has sort of been weird. The popular scene where Peter and Mary Jane meet for the first time happened like this; Peter opens the door and Mary Jane is standing out there and delivers this well-known line. It’s an unforgettable moment, yet doesn’t make any sense.
Mary Jane had not met Peter before this scene, so how did she know that she was a Jackpot for him? It is possible that she was never his type. Maybe she thought he wouldn’t care about how she looked like. It was quite a pompous thing to say and she was lucky that it wasn’t taken in an incorrect way.
3. Gwen Deserved to be Peter’s Love
Gwen Stacy’s death was one sad yet important moment in comic book history. Until that very point, the hero was always able to save the girl. That is exactly what made this story so memorable since Gwen was meant to be Peter’s, true love. Her death shocked his world and he regrets it lifelong.
This could have affected his relationship with MJ. She has been understanding about his loss, but many times has even caught him crying over Gwen’s picture. This keeps on reminding her that she is his second choice. Though she doesn’t blame him, it sure hurts her.
4. Was Mary Jane Ever Successful In What She Did?
There are few fans who find Peter Parker and MJ’s relationship quite weird. They do not like the fact that Peter is married to a supermodel. And the issue is that Mary Jane has had quite an inconsistent career.
She has been having a hard time and keeps on switching from being a struggling model, a soap opera actress, and sometimes even gives up on the glam life. Looks like writers can’t make up their minds to make her famous or not.
5. She Keeps Switching When It Comes To Peter Being Spider-Man
It’s totally understandable that dating a superhero can be hard. So we can’t blame her to try to convince Peter to give up being Spider-Man.
But she just can’t decide. Sometimes she is being supportive of his choice yet at times, she wants him to quit. Now she always knew that Peter was Spider-Man before she even met him and also knows that he won’t give up being a superhero. So honestly, it’s high time she makes up her mind.
