We all cried at the heroic sacrifice that Iron Man made in Avengers: Endgame. But what if we tell you that there might be ways that MCU can have Tony Stark in the upcoming phase and beyond?
The beginning of MCU saw Iron Man as the foremost film which ended up kicking off a cinematic universe that has ever since become a pop-culture phenomenon.

While MCU is busy introducing new heroes to the big and small screens, Iron Man’s time might not be over yet. It is highly unlikely that the MCU would directly undo Tony’s death – but he might appear in some capacity without hurting the ending of Endgame. Here are some ways Phase 4 could bring Tony Stark back.

The Multiverse may bring him back

By now we all know that Phase 4 will introduce the Multiverse into the MCU. The sequel to Doctor Strange will play a key role in introducing the Multiverse alongside Spider-Man: No Way Home till some extent. Alternate realities allow the filmmakers to show a different take on a character. As Phase 4 explores other Earths, seeing Tony in another universe could be absolutely groundbreaking. With endless realities at MCU’s disposal, seeing Tony from another universe would always be quite refreshing.

Time Travel May Be The Reason

Avengers: Endgame saw time travel and it’s quite a possibility that Phase 4 may showcase time travel to some extent. The upcoming Marvel Studios series, Loki will also be one of the projects that will see different timelines. If any of the Marvel heroes went back in time, that would give filmmakers an opportunity to show Tony once again. Even if it’s for one single scene, it can be used to show something about Tony that viewers may not have ever seen.

Tony can appear in MCU flashbacks

Time travel may not be the only way Tony can be seen onscreen. There are plenty of scenes from Iron Man’s time that can be used as archived footage. Tony was known to affect a lot of people while he lived – whether it was Pepper Potts, Spider-Man, or Thor – there are characters that may still have Tony’s demise following them. Movies like Black Widow which take place since the events of the Civil War may also showcase Tony in some quantity.

Marvel can bring a fresh Iron Man

Disney+ is already coming up with an Ironheart series

Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home taught us all one big lesson: Peter Parker was never destined to become the next Iron Man. However, this does not mean that MCU will not have a similar figure. An easy solution can be an alternate version of Tony becoming Iron Man in this universe. However, this can be controversial as there are other characters that can and might keep the Iron mantle going. Disney+ is also coming up with the series Ironheart, which will star Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams. Given the studio is setting her up as “the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man”, Ironheart can be the perfect character to bring fresh blood to the Iron Man legacy.

Tony may return as an AI

While there are many ways to include Tony without altering his death, what if he was there in the MCU as technology? It is possible that someone as intelligent as Tony may have created an A.I. version of himself before his death. There is a possibility that the world – or at least the Avengers – might need Tony’s mind and guidance in some way. It would be quite easy to have Tony exist as an A.I. – perhaps by becoming the new J.A.R.V.I.S. He might be a hologram or just a voice inside a system, it would be quite a different take on having Iron Man back in the MCU.
