Watching movies is one of the best ways to kill free time. The diversity of genres allows us to “move” to a specific place, feel different emotions, and simply escape our reality. Some movies are great as background “noise”, while others appeal to us. If you are the kind of person who has difficulty choosing a movie worth watching because you are lost in a variety of movies, the good people on the Internet can save you by sharing their tips on the subject. With this in mind, a Reddit user u/akambe asked people to share “Which movie is very good, you would recommend it to all your friends, but it is so emotionally traumatized that you never see it again?” The post with 391,000 views quickly turned into a list of countless shocking movies, from old movies depicting historical events to dramas that remind us of how short and truly important life is. This question triggered a discussion about why people find something sad and even traumatic in these movies: strong character portrayals, emotionally harsh movie scenes, unexpected plot turns, or a combination of everything. Did you see your choice on the list? If not, which movie have you seen that left you speechless, and you may never see it again?

8. The Boy In The Striped Pajamas (2008):

I’m here to talk about this. This movie… speechless. It still bothers me. It still makes me feel uneasy, takes me back there, and breaks my heart. They hired the protagonist Asa Butterfield because he is innocent. I don’t know anything about the Holocaust. They didn’t tell him anything about the Holocaust or the nature of the story, he was just playing a child and another child through the fence. They kept her brilliant innocence throughout the movie. This is what makes the ending of this movie so heartbreaking. I am still very moved by this movie.

7. Life Is Beautiful (1997):

This movie is an indescribable tragedy. But it is also very beautiful. The love of my family for each other is bound to me all the time. Roberto Benigni is perfect in this role!

6. The Grave Of The Fireflies (1988):

I will never, never see that shit again. It comes from Studio Ghibli, and it also comes from Spirited Away (Sen to Chihir). It’s an absolute masterpiece for sure, but don’t expect to find happy little animals in it.

5. Pan’s Labyrinth (2006):

I thought I would watch a great fantasy movie… it turned out to be a movie about trauma, abuse and coping mechanisms. This is still a great movie, but a very heartbreaking movie.

4. Bridge To Terabithia (2007):

My childhood literally ended after ending this movie.

3. Stand By Me (1986):

The last line makes me think every time; “I have never had more friends like I did when I was 12 years old. Gosh, anyone?”

2. American History X (1998):

Dude the f*****g curb stomp is still clear in our minds and it’s been years. Since the movie was released.

1. Requiem For A Dream (2000):

The ending scene made me unwell. This is the only movie that feels this way to me after watching it.
