88-Year-Old James Bond Star Made Emily Blunt Quit Her Career Before Hollywood Fame

Emily Blunt has become well-known thanks to her parts in several critically acclaimed and financially lucrative films. She has appeared in a wide range of films, including comedies, dramas, and action flicks, and her versatility as an actor has elevated her to the top ranks of Hollywood performers.

Blunt has consistently shown off her immense talent and range as an actress with her breakthrough role in the comedy-drama The Devil Wears Prada to her compelling performance in the horror-thriller A Quiet Place. The British actress is also well-known for playing Mary Poppins, the magical nanny. The 40-year-old actress recently collaborated on the critically acclaimed film Oppenheimer. But Blunt, now an acclaimed actor, almost made a career shift when she started working in the industry. But a very famous actress kept her from embarking on an alternative career.

Judi Dench Talked Emily Blunt Out of Her Pop Career

Emily Blunt has been part of the Hollywood industry for several years. The actress has amassed a sizable fan base throughout her acting career and achieved success. However, acting was not the career path Blunt chose in the beginning. The 40-year-old, during her time on Jimmy Kimmel Live, revealed she nearly switched to pop music, when she first entered the industry.

The British actress claimed she could have been Britney Spears. When the host asked why she chose not to, the Jungle Cruise actress replied, “Cause I realized that I’m not good at dancing and didn’t want to be Britney, I don’t know.” 

The Devil Wears Prada star revealed that she was approached early on about a future in the pop industry. She was almost going to take the alternate path when Judi Dench talked her out of it and prevented her from starting on an alternative career. Blunt said,

“I was doing a play, my first job was with Judi Dench — the dame — which was incredible, and she was wonderful to me.”

The actress asked the James Bond star for advice regarding her career, as the 40-year-old was nervous and confused. Blunt recalled the advice she received from Dench,

“Oh, no, darling, you can’t do both. You can’t act and do that.’ She talked me out of it. She put the kibosh on that.”

Thankfully, the 88-year-old actress talked Emily Blunt out of her pop career, but she did record a few songs, one of them being, Ring It Up.

Emily Blunt Achieved Success in Her Acting Career

Emily Blunt is one of the most renowned British actresses in the industry who has quite an influence in Hollywood. She has worked with many stars in the industry. The actress is known for her sharply defined portrayals of women from all areas of life. 

 After receiving both critical and audience praise for her scene-stealing performance in The Devil Wears Prada (2006), she quickly secured starring roles in a variety of films, including the historical drama The Young Victoria (2009).

Blunt was just 18 years old when she got her first professional acting job in a West End production called The Royal Family, in which she co-starred with Dame Judi Dench. The 40-year-old has been part of some extremely successful projects like The Devil Wears Prada, Mary Poppins Returns, and the Quite Place franchise. 

The Jungle Cruise star recently appeared in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film Oppenheimer. She played Kitty Oppenheimer, the wife of J. Robert Oppenheimer, with Cillian Murphy.
