“I was so mean to them”: Kelly Ripa Yelled at Kids For Their Heartfelt 50th Birthday Gift, Felt Terrible After it Was Revealed
Age is only a number, right? In the midst of the popularity of her talk show, Live With Kelly and Ryan, Kelly Ripa celebrated her 50th birthday with a sense of optimism about her life. The Daytime Emmy winner attended a small event to celebrate the success of her talk show as well as her birthday on October 2, 2020. The host of Live with Kelly and Ryan witnessed her kids paying a touching tribute on set, and she later admitted she had yelled at them for returning home to record it. Ripa nearly broke down in tears as the siblings talked about their favorite things to do with her.
There were also balloons all over the stage in silver, gold, and pink. Ripa was beaming as she posed for photographs while giving her son a bear hug and kiss.
Kelly Ripa’s kids gave her the best Birthday surprise
The Live with Kelly and Ryan star began her big day on Friday by filming an episode of her morning program. At that point, her kids, Michael, 23, Lola, 19, and Joaquin, 17, surprised her with a visit. They showed up on set during one episode to give their mother a bouquet of lovely white flowers. She found this to be a very moving moment. The siblings almost made Kelly Ripa cry as they talked about the things they love doing with Ripa the most. She also laughed aloud when their video turned into a mock family argument.
But after seeing it, she admitted to her co-host Ryan Seacrest,
“It’s all coming into focus. I literally walked into the house the other day and I was like ‘what are you all doing here? I was so mean to them.” She felt bad and apologized to everyone. “What are these kids doing back in this house, bringing COVID into my house?”

That’s not Kelly Ripa’s only surprise
It wasn’t Kelly Ripa‘s only surprise, though. As a matter of fact, her husband Mark Consuelos, who was then spending time in Vancouver filming his television series Riverdale, made a virtual appearance to send his love to his wife. Ripa wrote to Mark and thanked him, saying, “Thank you baby, wish we were together,” which delighted the Consuelos’ fans. In addition, co-host Ryan Seacrest planned a few things for his friend, including a socially distanced party with Anderson Cooper, a Fudgie the Whale birthday cake, and a Breakdown Brass street performance.
Ripa received a message from Oprah Winfrey on her 50th birthday and was lavishly feted on the set. Her daughter Lola also offered her praise to the clicked pictures and added, “So beautiful and perfect.” Kelly Ripa appeared to have had a great start to her 50th birthday, but we hope there will be many more reasons to celebrate. We know she’s already surrounded by a lot of love, regardless of how she celebrates turning 50.
