“BLACKPINK in your area” for Christmas can only get better with a dash of Britney Spears. This Christmas, K-pop met the Princess of Pop, all thanks to Lisa from BLACKPINK, who released an iconic cover of Spears’s classic Christmas song, My Only Wish (This Year)

Britney Spears’s My Only Wish is a staple Christmas bop, and injecting it with K-pop flavors just made it dance floor-worthy material through which the fans can channel their sparkling Christmas energy. It is indeed a coming together of queens from different worlds in the holiday spirit and fans from both fandoms cannot contain their excitement.

BLACKPINK’s Lisa drops a banger Britney Spears cover for Christmas

BLACKPINK has been dropping Christmas surprises one after the other for their fans. So far, there have been three big announcements or releases. A day after Christmas, BLACKPINK will be releasing a virtual-reality concert showcase: Blackpink: A VR Encore. Jennie also announced the release of her new label and company, OA, in the new year. However, nothing could top Lisa dropping the chart-topping Britney Spears cover on Christmas.

Lisa wished her fans a merry Christmas on Instagram and dropped the song on her YouTube channel. She captioned her Instagram announcement, saying:

“Christmas present for my Blinks… Have a wonderful holiday.”

The Spears song that Lisa resuscitated was actually part of Jive Records’ 2000 all-label holiday album, Platinum Christmas, which featured artists like NSYNC, Santana, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys, and R. Kelly alongside Britney Spears. After her 2021 Lalisa, this Spears cover is her second single.

When Pop Crave posted about it on X (formerly Twitter), the social media site blew up with Blinks pouring in adoration for their favorite band member. Many thought that she slayed the whole song, while others were just expressing gratitude for being able to unwrap an early Christmas gift from their favorite K-pop idol. It is not only the cover of the song that is creating a tsunami among fans. Many hardcore Blinks suspect that BLACKPINK members are finally out of YGE’s control, which means their solo projects are no longer YGE property. Jennie just announced her new label, OA, and Lisa shared sort of similar pictures for her song cover, which is making the fans think that she would also announce something along the lines of Jennie’s label soon.

BLACKPINK’s Jennie establishes her own label and company OA

Jennie and Lisa are two of the most popular BLACKPINK members right now. Jennie already had a tremendous 2023 with her viral appearance in The Weeknd’s star-studded show The Idol, where she made her acting debut. She also headlined Coachella this year with BLACKPINK as part of their Born Pink world tour and was named a prestigious honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire. Needless to say, she is thriving on her own and as part of the group.

The showstopper for Jennie this year is definitely the announcement of her new label and company, OA. On December 24, as an early Christmas gift, Jennie posted about OA at the handle @oddatelier on her personal Instagram and announced the company as part of her solo ventures. Read the full message below:

Hi, this is Jennie. This year was filled with many accomplishments, and I’m so thankful for all the love I’ve received. I’m also about what’s to come, as I start my solo journey in 2024 with a company that I have established called OA. Please show lots of love for my new start with OA and of course BLACKPINK. Thank you.

She also added a nugget of information under the two photos in OA’s account about the meaning of the company and its purpose:

“OA, which stands for ODD ATELIER, is a space that aims to create new things that attract attention in a different way from what is usual or expected. It is a label founded by artist JENNIE in November 2023.”

It remains to be seen whether Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa sign with YGE or take individual paths like Jennie.

Blackpink: A VR Encore is set to stream on December 26, 2023.
