SUMMARY
  • Harry Styles' career saw great heights during his time in One Direction.
  • Fans erected a shrine at the place where Styles threw up when he got sick.
  • Liam Payne seems to be yet another victim of the entertainment industry.

Harry Styles is one of the highest-selling pop artists in the world, and his involvement in the British boyband, One Direction certainly had a lot to do with his rise to stardom. He joined the band as a teenager and embarked on his solo career at 22 after the band went on a hiatus that was supposed to last only 18 months (yes, we are still holding on to that heartache).

The thing with fame, however, is that it often costs people their privacy and peace of mind. The members of One Direction were no different. While most fans have tried their best to be respectful of the privacy of the band members, the same cannot be said about some others who have made their stardom look a little dangerous. It was the overzealousness of such fans that led to a rather bizarre incident that had to do with Harry Styles.

Bizarre Harry Styles Incident Shows How Unhinged the Consequences of Being Famous Can Be Sometimes

One Direction has been stealing hearts since its X Factor days, but their debut single was what made them a worldwide phenomenon. Every new album and tour made them even more famous to the point that they could barely be in public without being noticed by fans or worse, the paparazzi.

The fan hysteria was such at times that one could not help but wonder how much was too much and where the line could be drawn. One such incident is when Harry Styles threw up on the side of an LA freeway and a shrine was erected at the place where he got sick. So, an incident that people would usually find repulsive was now being looked back with adoration.

According to the Daily Mail, in October 2014, Styles was returning from Lily Allen’s afterparty at Nice Guy when he suddenly began feeling sick. So, he asked the driver of the black Audi to pull over so that he could throw up. The As It Was singer was allegedly not drunk because he was not legally allowed to drink in the U.S.

After the paparazzi pictures of the incident went viral, some fans were quick to get there and erect a banner that read, “Harry Styles threw up here 10-12-14.” As odd as it sounds, it is true and the banner is there to this date. This might seem hilarious to some, but it has to be noted that this was not the singer’s brightest moment and the least he deserved was an ounce of privacy so that he could get himself together.

Is There Ever a Line Drawn When It Comes to Child Stars?

Liam Payne was 14 when he auditioned for The X Factor for the first time, 16 when he became a part of One Direction, and 31 when it was suddenly time for him to bid adieu to the world. Ever since his passing, there has been a lot of discussion about how he died.

The reason is reported to be an accidental fall from the balcony of his hotel room in Argentina. However, the broader scenario ultimately turns out to be the fact that like many other child stars, he too became a victim of the ruthlessness of the entertainment industry.

Not only did he address his mental health struggles during interviews, but also mentioned that his alcohol addiction began when he was in One Direction. Churning out five albums in five years is no easy feat. It unavoidably meant that they were promoting one album while working on the next one. Not to mention the four world tours that they did.

This boy band was not the first to be a victim of this money-mindedness of the industry. Drew Barrymore, Macaulay Culkin, Lindsay Lohan, Corey Haim, the list goes on and on, but the question remains exactly as it was.
