Talented actor Adan Canto best known for his role as Sunspot in the X-Men movies died at the age of 42 on January 8, 2024. Apart from the iconic science fiction franchise, Canto has landed other notable roles in various projects.

According to the reports emerged from reliable sources, Adan Canto died due to a private battle with appendiceal cancer. The X-Men: Days of Future Past star is survived by his wife and two daughters. Canto’s latest project was Fox’s drama series The Cleaning Lady which is set for its third season. However, due to health issues, the actor could not star in the upcoming season.

Adan Canto will be truly missed as the actor has been an incredible artist throughout his acting career, he recently played the lead role of Arman Morales in the first two seasons of The Cleaning Lady. Another massive role that Canto landed was in the political drama Designated Survivor which aired from 2016 to 2019. The actor portrayed Aaron Shore who became the vice president after serving as White House chief of staff. The two seasons were aired on ABC, followed by its final on Netflix.

However, since Adan Canto has passed away, The Hollywood Reporter was able to talk with Television and FOX Entertainment, they said that:

“A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in The Following more than a decade ago. Most recently, he lit up the screen in The Cleaning Lady with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth, and vulnerability.”

Expressing their grievance and condolences they continued:

“This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children, and loved ones. We will miss Adan dearly.”

Adan Canto was also known for playing the X-Men mutant Sunspot who had great abilities to manipulate solar energy. The Devil Below star found his love for acting at the age of 7 when was in his hometown in Mexico and became an extra part of a Mexican romance film Like Water for Chocolate.

Adan Canto previously mentioned him entering Hollywood as an actor, and knowing the fact how Latino actors are cast in the industry. The 2 Hearts star believed that there lies a practice of casting them as gangsters in crime dramas. However, Canto dared to portray other distinct characters, and as he believed in himself, the actor landed notable roles. In an interview with the Observer, he said:

“I was just honest with myself and with my team the whole way through — there were obviously certain characters or scripts that I read that I immediately went like, ‘Of course not! No!”

Adan Canto emphasized rejecting roles that didn’t feel right as he was born in Mexico and knew about the Northern Mexican culture. The actor then added:

“I didn’t want to do anything that didn’t sound or feel right, and I guess I’ve been blessed with good opportunities and I fought for other opportunities that weren’t necessarily handed over to me.”

The incredible actor has left behind his wife and two beloved young children Roman Alder, 3.5 years of age, and Eve Josephine, 1.5. Adan Canto’s wife Stephanie Canto has shared a heartfelt message for his deceased husband on her Instagram account.
