‘Aggressive Autograph Seekers’ Throw Soda at Shang-Chi Actor Simu Liu’s Car, Actor Visibly Shook
Canadian actor Simu Liu, who is known for his work in the 2021 Marvel movie Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, took to his Twitter account on Wednesday to talk about an incident he faced earlier this week in Philadelphia.
Had a not great altercation at the end of my book event in Philly.

Professional autograph seekers threw soda at Simu Liu’s vehicle
He wrote on Twitter “Had a not great altercation at the end of my book event in Philly. Look, I’m trying to have a real moment with my audience. If you come to my events and harass me or make me or my fans uncomfortable, there’s no chance in hell I’m going to sign for you. Don’t cross that line.”

The actor also shared a blurry picture of a car without a license plate, that belonged to the autograph seekers, and said that he is going to press charges against them. He wrote, “Best photo that I could get but these professional autograph seekers followed us out of the Philly event and then threw soda on our window. They then ran to their car to remove the front license plate so we couldn’t ID them. Thankfully we had someone at the event venue documenting so we will get them and file a report with authorities. Obviously, everyone is fine but we’re just a bit shook that this could happen.”

The actor said he is going to press charges against them
Simu Liu doesn’t normally have a problem with signing something, but he stated that these autograph seekers were making his fans at the event uncomfortable and he wasn’t “rewarding that behavior.” These types of people take autographs which they could, in turn, sell for a profit. Fortunately, someone documented the entire event so the actor will be able to file a report with authorities.

Why did the group throw soda at Simu Liu?
Thank you so much 🙂 at the end of the day it was just a couple bottles of soda but it's indicative of a really toxic culture of autograph seekers (not all, some) that are willing to cross personal boundaries just to make a buck. I'm not rewarding that behaviour.

He also said that he had a “couple of bad experiences” in a row where his personal space was “badly violated.” In a follow-up tweet, he added that at the end of the day “it was just a couple bottles of soda” but it highlights a larger problem within the industry. Thankfully, no one was hurt at the scene.
