Alan Arkin won an Oscar for Little Miss Sunshine
Actor Alan Arkin, who appeared alongside Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Paul Dano, and Abigail Breslin in 2006’s movie Little Miss Sunshine for merely 14 minutes, impressed the critics and the audience with his role of a grandfather of a dysfunctional family.
The late actor was later nominated for an Academy Award in the Supporting Actor category in 2007 and he eventually won the award. During his acceptance speech, Arkin said,
“More than anything, I am deeply moved by the open-hearted appreciation our short film has received, which in these fragmented times speaks so openly of the possibility of innocence, growth, and connection.”
He added,
“Acting for me has always been and always will be a team sport. I cannot work at all unless I feel a spirit of unity around me. So my main sense of gratitude goes to the entire cast and crew and production team of Little Miss Sunshine for creating the same sense of joy and trust and community that the film speaks about.”

According to ardent fans of the actor, he was a master of comedy and drama and was always known to be the best part of whatever he was in. Arkin, according to critics, was very skillfully able to thread the needle between a whole tapestry of rich emotions with ease which at times would leave everyone surprised at how great of an actor he is.
Arkin’s performance as a grandfather in Little Miss Sunshine is remembered by everyone because it was mentioned that the way he portrayed a character with layers of a man as deceptively complicated as he was darkly comedic, there will always be the sense that this was the role Arkin alone could do better than anyone else.
The actor played characters in more than 100 films, and each of his portrayals was appreciated by both critics and audiences for having something special to offer that no other actor could. Six Emmy Award nominations for his extensive body of noteworthy work have been made, and just lately he was nominated for The Kominsky Method.
Back in 2020, he shared with The Guardian,
“I’m like a horse going down the trail. Acting is so ingrained in my physiognomy and the channels of my brain that I find myself missing aspects of the business. But I don’t need it any more. I should probably get over it.”
Beyond acting, the late actor had provided other contributions to the entertainment industry as well including the original Broadway production of Neil Simon’s The Sunshine Boys, which ran successfully for more than 500 performances, was directed by him.
