All Upcoming Movies of Tom Cruise You Should Be Excited For
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a really sad period for all ardent Tom Cruise fans. I mean, we haven’t seen Tom Cruise run, jump, fall, or do his typical smirky neck thing in 2 whole years. The last film he starred in was Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which came out back in July 2018. So, it has been a dry run for those who wish to see him running. Sadly, this dry run will continue until Summer 2021. But after that, the Cruise ship is going to pick up some pace and be featured in at least two films per year. So, here are all the upcoming Tom Cruise movies that you should be excited for:
Top Gun: Maverick
After 35 whole years, Cruise will be making a return to the Top Gun franchise. He will reprise his role of the hot-shot pilot, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. The only change in his role will be that he will have gained a greater reputation as a pilot, and a promotion from “Lieutenant” to “Captain.” Top Gun: Maverick has been delayed quite a few times. First it was supposed to arrive in 2019, but then it was pushed to summer 2020 as Tom Cruise had to take a few flying lessons. We were all excited to see him fly an F-16 in the trailers, but COVID-19 gave the film a couple more delays. Now, it has finally set the release date of July 1, 2021. Along with Cruise, we’re going to see Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, and Jon Hamm amongst others.
Mission: Impossible 7 & 8
The infamous action movie star is currently busy filming his last two Mission: Impossible movies. With these films, we’re always excited to see where Tom could run, climb or jump out of next. We’ve already seen him climb and run alongside the tallest building in the world, ride and fall off of motorbikes, hang outside a plane, stay underwater for minutes, fly a chopper himself, and the list could go on and on. And this time around, set photos and videos have hinted at stunts on a bridge, a train, a dirt bike, a few boats, etc. Again, the list could go on and on.
Christopher McQuarrie is coming up with a two-part finale event for Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team of IMF agents – Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), Benji (Simon Pegg) and Luther (Ving Rhames). Other characters returning in the two films are Erika Sloane (Angela Bassett), Agent Eugene Kittridge (Henry Czerny), and possibly even Alanna Mitsopolis/White Widow (Vanessa Kirby). Besides them, several new actors including Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Shea Wingham have joined the cast. Esai Morales is playing the big bad villain. Mission: Impossible 7 arrives on November 19, 2021. It will be followed by Mission: Impossible 8 on November 4, 2022.
Tom Cruise’s Untitled Space Run
It is confirmed. Tom Cruise is officially going to space! Right after he finishes production on the last two Mission: Impossible movies, he will strap into a Rocket-ship along with director Doug Liman, and leave for Space in October 2021. This is going to be his most ambitious project till date. He is teaming up with Elon Musk’s SpaceX and NASA to shoot his untitled space movie. Universal Pictures have promised to fund $200 million for the project. Apparently, Cruise ran out of places to jump from on Earth, so he’s literally going to jump with a harness from the International Space Station.
Luna Park
Besides Cruise’s untitled Space movie, he is also set to star in Doug Liman’s other Space movie, called Luna Park. The rumored plot of this film includes Tom Cruise leading a team of space workers in order to steal a certain energy-source from the moon. It remains to be seen whether Liman will also be filming a few scenes for Luna Park next year.
Edge of Tomorrow 2
Luna Park was announced way back in 2017, so there’s a chance that it may not materialize into a movie in the near future. Another such film, which has been announced for a while, but will not be filming anytime soon is the sequel to 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow. Again, Doug Liman is set to direct the film while Cruise is going to return along with Emily Blunt. But we shouldn’t expect it to arrive any time soon.
Rumored: Red Notice
Back in June, The Illuminerdi reported that Cruise was in talks to make a cameo in the Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot starrer Netflix movie, Red Notice. If he did sign up for this cameo, then his character would be the villain of the sequel. But since he has been filming MI 7 & 8, we don’t know if she did shoot his Red Notice cameo. So, take this rumor as a grain of salt.
