SUMMARY
  • George R. R. Martin kind of teased a secret project with Maisie Williams.
  • Meanwhile, HBO is also working on a 'Game of Thrones' movie.
  • Williams could star in an entirely new project, possibly even in a 'GOT' film.

Game of Thrones fans, something big could be coming your way—and it has nothing to do with dragons… or does it? Recently, George R. R. Martin, the mastermind behind A Song of Ice and Fire (the books that inspired Game of Thrones), shared a little tidbit on his blog that has everyone hyped already.

It looks like Maisie Williams, the actress who brought the fierce Arya Stark to life, might be getting involved in a new project with Martin. But wait—before you start imagining Arya swinging her sword again, let’s take a step back.

The details are still super unclear, but Martin’s cryptic comments have left fans speculating about some exciting possibilities. While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, the idea of Williams returning to the Game of Thrones universe—whether it’s through a movie, spinoff, or something entirely new—has us all hyped.

This could mean a brand-new adventure for Arya Stark, or it could be a completely different kind of project. Either way, fans are crossing their fingers that something exciting is in the works.

George R. R. Martin is not exactly known for being an open book when it comes to revealing his plans, and he’s definitely keeping us in the dark this time around, too. In a recent blog post on Not a Blog, Martin shared an update about his travels in London—and it wasn’t just the sights and sounds that got people’s attention.

He mentioned that he met up with Maisie Williams for a casual hangout that included pizza and pasta, and that they talked about something big. Now, before you get too excited, Martin didn’t spill any details on exactly what they discussed. He wrote:

We also got together with Maisie Williams for pizza and pasta, and talked about — well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it. It could be so much fun.

Of course, this has led to tons of speculation about what they could be working on together. Fans are naturally jumping to conclusions. But the truth is, while Martin isn’t giving anything away, the fact that he’s even mentioning it is a huge deal.

So, if you’re a die-hard fan of the show or just love Williams, you should definitely keep your eyes peeled. Something big could be coming our way… and it might just involve dragons (or not, who knows).

Alright, the next update is not just about Maisie Williams anymore—there’s a whole Game of Thrones movie brewing behind the scenes. Yes, you heard that right, a movie! For a while, HBO was pretty dead set on not bringing Game of Thrones to the big screen, but apparently, all that has changed.

According to HBO CEO Casey Bloys, there’s now a Game of Thrones movie in the early stages of development. Before you get too excited, let’s remember that this movie is still in the very early stages.

No director or cast has been attached yet, and there’s no word on what the movie’s plot will be. But HBO has confirmed that they’re working on it, and they’re exploring the possibility of turning the massive Game of Thrones universe into a feature film. Check out his quote below (via EW):

When we announce at HBO we’re developing this story or that story, keep in mind it’s developing. I don’t necessarily look at it from an investment point of view. Just like, would it be a fun, big movie? I think there’s potential for that. It’s very early in the process.

Back in 2014, Martin himself said there were talks about turning the franchise into a movie. He told The Hollywood Reporter:

It all depends on how long the main series runs.  The books get bigger and bigger [in scope]. It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know.

This could mean a return to Westeros for some of our favorite characters, or maybe it’ll focus on new faces entirely. HBO is being super secretive about the whole thing, but the fact that they’re developing a Game of Thrones movie shows that they’re seriously considering expanding the franchise beyond TV.

Maybe they’ll even finally give us that Arya Stark adventure we’ve been begging for since 2019. And the best part is George R. R. Martin’s involvement in this mystery movie.

Maisie Williams and George R. R. Martin Could Be the Next Epic Collab

Now, let’s talk about Maisie Williams—because, honestly, she’s the real reason we’re all so excited right now. The actress who made Arya Stark one of the most beloved characters in TV history has been pretty quiet since Game of Thrones ended.

But with all this talk about her meeting with George R. R. Martin, could she be gearing up for a return to the world of Westeros? Maybe. But since the new Game of Thrones movie is in the (early) development that could even become a reality.

One of the biggest theories floating around is that the project they’re working on could be a spinoff focusing on Arya Stark. If you remember, Arya’s journey at the end of Game of Thrones left fans with so many unanswered questions.

She set off to explore what’s west of Westeros, and the mystery surrounding her future was left wide open. Could this be the story that’s about to get the green light? Fingers crossed.

But the author has written a ton of other books outside of Game of Thrones—and some of them could be the perfect fit for Williams. Take Nightflyers, for example. It’s a sci-fi novel about a mysterious space journey, and with Williams’ range as an actress, she’d totally crush a role like that.

Then there’s Fevre Dream, a gothic horror novel set on a steamboat, which could make for an intense, suspenseful story. The 27-year-old’s talent for portraying complex, strong-willed characters would make her a great fit for either of these roles.

In fact, there’s a lot of potential for Williams to work with Martin on a completely new project that has nothing to do with Game of Thrones.

For now, fans will have to make do with George R. R. Martin’s teasing blog post and dive back into Westeros by streaming all the GOT content on Max.
