Cara Delevingne states those viral pictures served as ‘a reality check’

In a cover story for VOGUE, successful model and actress Cara Delevingne talked about the viral photos of her that were taken at Los Angeles’ Van Nuys Airport in September, saying they gave her a reality check. At the airport, Delevingne was photographed acting strangely, with messy hair, and without any shoes.

After being denied boarding a flight, the model once kicked her feet out of the car window. Delevingne, 30, said she was returning from weeks of partying in Ibiza and at Burning Man before going to a work engagement. The model and actress said,

“All I knew is, like, if I was continuing to go down the road I was, I would either end up dead or, like, doing something really, really stupid. And I think that…That was scary.”

“It’s never going to be fixed but I’m okay”: Cara Delevingne

The model admitted that she realized in September that she needed help and support, adding that she started reaching out and, at the same time, a friend of hers whom she has known since she was 13 started crying over a call. She said, “They looked at me and said, ‘You deserve a chance to have joy.”

During the interview, she said that she knows that, in a way, a lot of people have looked at her childhood or her family and thought, she’s spoiled, there’s nepotism, and she grew up extremely privileged, which she admitted that she did, don’t get her wrong but noted that life was not all that easy for her for other reasons. Models struggle with addiction.

“I hadn’t seen a therapist in three years. I just kind of pushed everyone away, which made me realize how I was in a bad place. I always thought that the work needed to be done when the times are bad, but actually the work needs to be done when it’s good. ‘The work needs to be done consistently. It’s never going to be fixed or fully healed, but I’m okay with that, and that’s the difference.”

Delevingne is aware that there is no finish line on the road to recovery. In the end, she is the most important person to answer right now. She concluded by saying that although the process had its ups and downs, she had begun to realize so much. The model-turned-actor acknowledged that she is aware that people only want to hear that she was an addict before getting sober, and that’s it. And it’s not quite that easy.

According to Cara Delevingne, it takes time to manifest. She naturally wants things to happen instantly, and she believes that this generation, in particular, wants things to happen quickly, but she needs to look further.
