Anne Hathaway has never shied away from expressing her immense respect and admiration for fellow actress Kate Winslet. In fact, Hathaway’s appreciation runs so deep that she once broke down in tears simply reading an article about Winslet. Hathaway was opening up about the industry standards about body image when she continued and also talked about role models.

According to IMDb, Anne Hathaway said in an interview,

“I cry terribly easily. Just a minute ago, I was reading an article about Kate Winslet in Vogue, and I love her so much, I started crying, realizing how great she is and how far I have to go.”

This respect was also evident in 2009 when both Hathaway and Kate Winslet were nominated for Best Actress Oscars for their roles in Rachel Getting Married and The Reader. Despite being an Oscar host and nominee herself, Hathaway was overawed by Winslet.

When Winslet finally claimed her first Oscar victory that night for The Reader, Hathaway was one of the most excited audience members. She clapped ecstatically as Winslet accepted the award, with some speculating that Hathaway’s enthusiasm was exaggerated.

However, Hathaway has clarified that her joy was completely genuine. As a longtime Winslet fan, she was overjoyed to see her idol achieve Academy recognition.

Though disappointed to lose the Best Actress award for her acclaimed performance in Rachel Getting Married, Hathaway maintained that Winslet was the deserving winner. According to Hathaway, Winslet even offered warm words after her victory.

“She very kindly came and found me backstage and said, ‘Darling, I have been in your shoes many times. I have lost more than I have won. You’ll be back,’” Hathaway fondly recalled.

Hathaway’s deep admiration for Winslet endured over the years. In 2014, Winslet reciprocated the appreciation when Hathaway asked her to name her favorite breakfast as part of a video chain letter with Total Film magazine.

“Oh, Annie! She’s so sweet,” gushed Winslet.

She then declared that eggs benedict is her preferred morning meal.
