Bradley Cooper gets backlash for his prosthetic nose in Maestro

Bradley Cooper the acclaimed actor is getting backlash after the release of his upcoming movie Maestro’s trailer. This upcoming romantic biographical drama which is written, directed, and starred by Bradley Cooper has been called out to be ‘Anit-Semitic’.

 

The actor is being called out for his appearance in the movie in which Cooper is seen wearing a prosthetic nose which is criticized for setting an example of the historical trope known as “Jewface”. Critics and fans believe that the portrayal of Jewish people in Hollywood has always been misrepresented and has supported the development of harmful stereotypes in society. Fans are even upset seeing why there is no Jewish actor playing the role of Bernstein.

Although in the wake of this ongoing debate where Bradley Cooper is being widely criticized a lot of people have also come out in his defense.

Anti-Defamation League comes out in support of Bradley Cooper

After a long wait, Anti-Defamation League (ADL) a notable Jewish organization that works against bias and bigotry has now finally spoken on the matter of Bradley Cooper. Coming out in the defense of Bradley Cooper, the ADL stated that the depiction of Bernstein is not antisemitic.

Talking about this ADL said to Variety “Throughout history, Jews were often portrayed in antisemitic films and propaganda as evil caricatures with large, hooked noses. This film, which is a biopic on the legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein, is not that”.

 

Apart from ADL even Leonard Bernstein’s three children, Jamie, Alexander, and Nina have come out in support of Cooper. Taking on Twitter (Currently known as X) three of them have given a joint statement saying that they are perfectly fine with the resemblance of their father in the movie. They even assured that the makeup used by Cooper is only to amplify their father’s resemblance and they are pretty sure that their father wouldn’t have minded it himself.  All three of them have also talked about their involvement in the movie and praised how Bradley Cooper has brought profound respect and life to the characters that are portraying their parents.

Despite all of this drama, Maestro would be hitting Netflix on December 20.
